I'm currently running a i5 4670K @ 3.4GHz but microcenter is having a sale on a Core i7 4770K 3.5GHz for $250. I've never overclocked anything before so I'm not really planning on it. I realize this is a pretty good deal but is it worth it moving from the i5 to i7?

Sell your i5 and yes it's worth it.

It's a great deal, but whether you'll see any benefit from the upgrade is dependent upon what you use the PC for.

So, what do you use your PC for, besides gaming? And also, what games do you play?

What GPU are you using?

If it's a decent one (760/7950 or better), you'll see a slight bump in performance on some games, zero gain in others, and perhaps notable increases in newer/upcoming CPU-intensive releases like BF4 multiplayer.

760 2gb

If I wont see that much of a difference there is probably no point. I just thought it was almost too good of a deal to pass up.

Used 4670K's are going for $200-215 on Amazon, I don't see why you wouldn't upgrade for ~50 bucks, worth it for sure IMO.

It really depends on the game. It's definitely a better CPU. Go see what used 4670k's have recently sold for on ebay. Used Amazon prices are not a good indicator of what you can realistically get for it. They might be listed for over $200, but it doesn't mean anyone's buying.

Can't say I wouldn't do it. I paid nearly $350 for my 4770k (I bought it essentially on release day), so it's an attractive price. Just no guarantees you will be wowed by the performance bump if you aren't doing cpu-intensive tasks.

I picked one of these up at MC a few months back for that same price. Of course I originally wanted to only spend in the upper 100's but I don't regret it at all. I can play every game out right now on max with only a few having some slowdown. Running a 7970 as well.
