Power Grid
7 Wonders
Dominion (or Legendary Marvel, which gets more plays from me)
Carson City
Archipelago
Eldritch Horror
Flash Point: Fire Rescue (like it more than vanilla Pandemic)
Lords of Vegas (go to Monopoly Replacement)
Samurai
Ghost Stories
Blood Rage
The Palaces of Carrara
Ticket to Ride (with at least the 1910 expansion, but I've loved the recent UK expansion as well)

I highly recommend Mr. Jack. It's a two player game but my wife and I enjoy the heck out of it.

edit for pic

Thread needs a few images, sometimes the name doesn't do the game justice, especially for someone looking for suggestions. For instance:

Ghost Stories

4 Player Cooperative Game. Excellent Horror-/Kung Fu Theme. Incredibly hard. Lots of fun.

Freaux,

You ever go all out on the kickstarter for some board games to get them early?

I have a friend that is big into board games that does this. Some great games have come out of it.

A few, not that many. And I avoid the super hyped and expansive ones. You have to be careful with Kickstarter too many unrealized products on there.

Probably a bit too complex for someone just jumping in, but it's pretty great.

Always interesting, not always successful, imo.

True.

Fortunately some have either print and play or apps that help them playtest...so you know if you liked that product and it worked then it is a worthwhile investment.

Next question: How do you organize your board game collection? Title? Number of players? Types of game? No organization.

I'm considering Gloomhaven

Looks like a solid game. Not officially kickstarter, but a preorder which is basically a kickstarter version. Tough decisions.

How they fit on the shelf

I try to keep myself to one shelf, but that's impossible now.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a few of these but I'll definitely try and add most of these to my collection. I've been stuck playing UNO, Chess, Phase 10 and Monopoly for so long I didn't realize there were so many great games out there until a few weeks ago. I started looking into different board games because my 11 year old son tore his ACL and partial MCL, PCL during football practice and will be down for a bit after surgery.
Just purchased Robinson Crusoe Aventures on Cursed Island. Was looking into a few solo player games and this looked like a can't miss. I just played Pandemic solo and it was actually pretty fun by myself.

The modern board game market is awesome. So much good stuff. It's sort of replaced Video Games for me, or at least decreased the amount I played a good bit and I can play them with family and friends.

Good luck to your son! I'm 14 months Post-ACL surgery myself, and yes some board gaming did help when I was down. Soccer injury.

It's an awesome game, but it's kind of complex. Did you get the 2nd edition? If so, the rules should be better.

If you're looking at Coops, Eldritch Horror is a definite but it's a lot like

Pandemic

EH has a little too much dice rolling, but the story the game tells is pretty good. If you aren't afraid of something like Crusoe that opens up options significantly.

we are playing this now with another married couple. we both have two kids each, so it's been hectic but we've spent a good 15-20 hours on it and barely scratched the surface. It's nuts, but incredibly satisfying
