Sony's Japan Studio has confirmed to IGN that Bloodborne will, in fact, have shields. This comes after months of speculation from diehard fans of the series who've noticed that none of the gameplay shown so far has included that specific type of a defense mechanism.
Masaaki Yamagiwa, producer at Sony's Japan Studio, told IGN, "There are shields in the game. However if you're always standing back and guarding, you'll die very quickly. So you have to incorporate it into your strategy of how you play and fight."
He went on to elaborate, "We wanted these encounters and battles to be so intense that If you just stand and wait, you'll get overwhelmed and killed right away. We wanted to encourage players to not hide and wait, but instead be more aggressive and pro-active in battle."

I'll never be caught dead using one.

Same. Wish I could cryogenically freeze myself

Smart. Just let all of your enemies die of old age.
Seriously though I'm excited for this game too. I never played Dark Souls so I'm anxious to find out what all the fuss is about.

I'm typing this from the future, in my hover chair, and I can tell you to believe the hype (hover chair courtesy of IGN).

Damn, I wish I could go back and start fresh.

It feels incredibly fresh every time I play it.

This game looks good but we are getting a little close to the possibility of too many Souls games even if this one doesn't have the word souls in it. DS2 came out just last year. I think this one will be fine but there doesn't need to be another for a couple of years IMO.

I am shocked you say this!

I am not bashing the game at all FWIW.

Ds2 sucked.
Bloodborne was made by he creator of ds1 (the goat). Hidetaka miyazaki
So this game should and will be amazing.
Regarding shields,
They have their uses I wouldn't play thru a whole game with 1 but for certain areas I promise a shield will come in handy

We get it the souls games aren't your thing. Why should you care if they release one every 30 minutes?

it was alright...
but like you said, because:

didn't make it, it definitely took a nose dive from ds1 or demon souls. It's still a freakishy fun co-op / multiplayer romp

Oversaturation of the market. My point is that they don't need to put too many out in too short of a time or they aren't as special. If they do that then assholes like you call it a 'moneygrab'

DS2 doesn't have the heart of its predecessor but it's a fine game and made great by the DLC.
And there can never be enough of these games. As long as they're not rushed out the door like Assassin's Creed, the audience who plays these games will play them.

Bloodborne isn't a cut and paste of the Souls games. What FROM did is nothing like Gearbox did with Borderlands.

I never said it was. I think this game will be just fine. I'm not sure why you care anyway, you won't be playing it

You called me an a-hole. And complained about a game you'll never touch.
