So far those who aren't in love with the game, what are the issues? I was thinking of picking this up Tuesday.

Too many gimmicks and not enough fighting.

It's also as technically sound as a Special Olympics hurdler

It feels very uninspired. I'm making myself finish the story and then trade it back in.

So my giving it away now looks like a good decision?

Eta: and if you finish that game, I don't expect to hear shite about me finishing DA2.

Good decision. Arkham is shorter than da2 though. I can finish this in 10-15 hours

The Good:

-game is beautiful
-voice acting is good
-H2H mechanics are tight and fluid. combat is really fun. partner and batmobile-assisted takedowns are badass
-some cool little gimmicks, i.e. digitally reconstruct a crash scene that you can rewind and fast forward through to look for clues. i only did that particular thing once, but i could see it getting old if they keep doing it

The Bad:

-the batmobile almost singlehandedly ruins the game. they took what shouldve been the focal point of a few setpiece segments and turned it into a grotesque, tedious gameplay focus. it controls horribly, all the fights are the same with a few separate drone types mixed in every now and then, and they use it way too much for puzzle solving. it's comical how often the game falls back to the batmobile. there is no incentive to use it when you don't have to because gliding and divebombing is 100x more fun

-the pacing is horrid. you can't walk 5 steps down the street without barbara or alfred or whoever the frick else calling you and forcing you into the batskype walking segments. terrible

-the writing is laughable. scarecrow is really cool, but arkham knight is just a joke. every time you talk to him, he's like "Batman! you foiled my dastardly plot once again! but this will be the LAST time! im coming for you!" It's like a 9 year old wrote his dialogue. If it really is who i think it is (and i have doubts because it would be so painfully obvious and they couldnt make it that easy) then just LOL at the writers

-side missions are miserable and uninspired. i have no drive to do any of them. in 1, for example, you chase a guy until he runs out of gas, you beat him up, and he gets away again. you have to find him 3 more times throughout the city and do literally the exact same chase sequence. no variance whatsoever. for others, they make you look through the city for things, like opera music, that lead to a clue. only problem is that every street of the city looks EXACTLY THE frickING SAME so i run around trying to find the source of the opera music for 30 minutes and say frick it. shite like that couldve benefitted from waypoints.

This game's Metacritic score is way too high.

I mean I understand them incorporating the batmobile into puzzle solving. it adds an aspect they haven't been able to use in other games. otherwise the puzzle solving would be just like all the other games. so in that regard I understand them forcing the batmobile on players, freshens the game up and keeps it from being just like all the other batman games. plus if you're fighting drone tanks all over town the batmobile is an obvious choice.

I do wish they would of gave us the bat cave with more of batman's vehicles to choose from. like have different vehicles we could unlock at different points of the game. that would've been badass.

Is it better or worse than Origins?

Hard to say. I played origins almost 2 years ago. If witcher goes on sale for $50 I'll trade this in for it right away

That is the most annoying part of the game for me. I keep hitting L2 to brake and I go into battle mode

This game is a lot of fun so far. But Batman in general is milked dry. 1 game too many. If origins was never made, this would be a great trilogy. I loved Aylum, City was great, and I could not even finish Origins. I like Arkham Knight, but it isn't what City or Asylum were

From a business stand point Origins made sense but you are correct. It was 1 game too many and hurt the brand.

I'd put Knight as being equal to Asylum, with City clearly being the superior entry in the franchise. Origins should have never been made, and had simply a shite story. The assassins idea isn't a bad one, but having the Joker be behind everything? Why not just make Joker one of the hired assassins? Could have easily had Joker and Bane go in together at the end in effort to kill Batman, and had a much better story as a result.
