ARMS: Nintendo Switch, More Info "Testpunch" This Weekend

Finally some more info on this very odd game:
Nintendo Direct
10 Fighters to Start
Tons of Game Modes
2v2 Fighting
Other Modes Info:
And....
Free Fighters, Stages, Arms post launch.
So no Game+Joycon pack I guess. Looks like I'm ordering some Joycons. I feel like this is Splatoon #2.
If any of the new Switch owners missed Splatoon, I'd highly recommend checking out some previews. I found the game more fun than Overwatch, just a little more bare bones. It looks like 2 will fill that out. People should be excited as that will replace MK8 for most multiplayer needs. And this one, I'm more impressed with every preview even though the whole thing is just so weird.
This looks quite good and I'm in Day 1 unless the Demo is bad.
Nintendo Direct
10 Fighters to Start
Tons of Game Modes
2v2 Fighting
quote:
- Fight mode has bombs and healing items dropped in
Team Fight has two players chained together by strings and you can hurt your teammate
V-Ball has you batting an explosive ball back and forth over a net
Hoops is basketball where you can grab your opponent and put them through the net
Skillshot has you punching targets in various orientations
1-on-100 has you punching enemies that appear in the arena
ARMS Test lets you try out combinations and training mode lets you try drills
Earn in-game prize money and use that at the Arm Getter to unlock new arm attributes. Duplicate arms you receive get a higher attack power.
Other Modes Info:
quote:
- Grand Prix is fighting 10 straight matches with different rules until you come to the last opponent.
- Party Match is played online, join up to 20 players in a lobby for 2, 3 or 4 player matches. Divide players into groups automatically and play all different modes.
- Ranked Match has one-on-one matches. If you win, your rank goes up. If you lose, your rank drops. Play another mode while you wait to find a ranked match.
- Local multplayer supports local wireless. Create a lobby for up to 8 players with 8 systems.

This is pretty much where I am with it as well. Really looking forward to the testpunch.

Callie is the villain of Splatoon 2. How about that...

Street fighter II ultra comes out in a week

See, ARMs is giving me the Power Stone vibe I've been waiting for since the Dreamcast days... I can NOT wait, and will probably be the reason I finally drop down and find a switch to buy

Getting both myself. With all the multiplayer games coming out, Nintendo really needs to step up the online chat/friend stuff ASAP. I hope it's in place for ARMS/E3.

That's pretty big excitement. But yeah I feel ya on PowerStone (I've wanted it on VC for a long time. Come on Sega).

powerstone 2 was the shite. Love that game. I have both on a OUYA console emulated. fricking FUN.
I already downloaded the test punch client, will check this out for sure.

Engadget Preview:

Even so, Nintendo is finding the association with the Wii's motion controls hard to shake. "I see this a lot," Nintendo Product Marketing Manager JC Rodrigo told Engadget, mimicking the short wrist-flick motions that defined Wii Sports Boxing. "When it comes to flailing and kind of doing this, your arms take time to leave your body and travel across. If your opponent's moving, and you just flick and don't do anything, your hand will just go wherever." It's most players' first guess at how to play the game, but Rodrigo says it's a tactic that doesn't work. "You will lose. Fast." There's a lot more to the game than punching too. Players will need to learn specific gestures to block attacks and execute grabs and will have to master the art of controlling their character's movement by leaning the Joy-Con controllers in just the right direction. It sounds complicated, but after weeks of testing each control scheme, Rodrigo said he's found it to be the most versatile way to play. Even so, it's not the only way to play. "There are button controls," he said. "So there are controls for all different types."

Arms will likely wind up being a game very much like Splatoon -- a fun, imaginative ideal for competitive multiplayer that doesn't completely make sense until you try it for yourself. Fortunately, Nintendo seems to understand this: Nintendo Switch owners will be able to try Arms for free during Global Test Punch events, during the last weekend of May and the first weekend of June. If the free taste gets you hooked, you won't have to wait long for the full game either: Arms launches for Nintendo Switch on June 16th.

Gonna check some of this tonight

Wow this game is pretty fun. Definitely different than anything else I've played. 3 way fights are a huge shite show

Yeah this game is awesome. And surprisingly strategic. Flailing gets you nowhere.
Yeah because one person just backs up and waits. They need to rebalance that a bit.

Yeah if you get caught in the middle you're fricked. Its difficult to toggle back and forth between who you want to focus on.

Dangit I got the time wrong in my head tonight and missed it. Will definitely be on in the morning. So is it a consensus yes from those who got on?
Posted on 5/26/17 at 10:10 pm to BCLA
Definitely thinking about pulling the trigger on a pre-order after playing.

Previews were spot on. It looks weird, but it is way fun.
