I'm in the process of building a desktop right now.

So far I've gotten:

i5 4690k
256 SSD
1TB HD
16 gigs RAM

I'm kinda unsure on where to go from here. Do Intel and Radeon play nice together? Is that a good card on a budget? Sorry, I'm a bit of a noob entering the master race.

intel plays nice with everyone these days - I find there are a few less "errors" with nVidia cards - and more updates than Radeon, but my current card is a Radeon and it has held it's own extremely well for over 2 years now (will be finally upgrading before Fallout 4)

At the end of the day, you get a "little" bit more for more cost on an nVidia, and since you are trying to get a card on a budget, I would go Radeon, you get the same bang, for less cost, and very little difference these days.

My buddy basically picked out all these parts and emailed me a newegg wish list to order from.

He's got a GTX 970 on there as the GPU, but that's rocking like a $350 price tag. I don't really play much that's going to require that kind of beef, but I also don't want a dumpy GPU. So I guess in the end ya pay for what ya get.

Well, AMD does have the best performance per dollar the past few years. The 970 is a great card, but if you could get this 280X from Dev for $150 or something, that would be too good of a deal to pass up IMO.

Yeah. I'm also waiting to hear back from another buddy that says he might have a 700 series GTX laying around, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what he says as well.

If no one else ends up needing it, that would be a great upgrade for me.
