Finding a UAZ was super special too.

Remember seeing a buddy drive to my spawn location without telling me he had found one... it seemed like Christmas.

One of my favorite memories during DayZ, which happen a ton is as follows.

1. You spawn top of NE coast and buddy spawns bottom SW coast.
2. Run for an hour to meet up.
3. Randomly stop hearing your buddy stop speaking on Skype/Vent, because has ran up on someone.
4A. He is killed and spawns at your original spawn location.

or

4B. Murders the group and we now have some sick loot.

That is basically probably DayZ in a nutshell.

I purchased a buddy and myself a copy of the DayZ standalone. We lasted maybe 3-4months and gave it up. It was a better game than the mod pre-hacker hacks but the bugs killed us. Literally killed us, you would load in much too often dead.

Pre hacker period didn't last very long and without mod tools to really control the servers it was much worse than the mod without even including the bugs.

H1Z1 has potential, if you get on a good server. It's still in dev stages, so you can expect wipes sometimes. Then, if you get bored, you can go into Battle Royale and basically get into a big FFA where you have to find weapons and vehicles before everyone else. There are both PVP and PVE servers as well.

Personally, and I'm possibly in the minority, but I enjoyed State of Decay. There's something about a game that treats dead characters as they are dead.

Hackers, like you said and underpopulated maps killed the game. Had they put the time and effort into it when it first came out and released the SA within a few months it would still be worth playing.

The problem with that game is Rocket. He got super controlling of a collection of mods he put together to make the original DayZ mod and then told that mod community to go F itself. The community built up the original DayZ mod, wasn't the best idea to alienate them.

i want something where i can scavenge for hours, getting wood, rock, etc.

sounds like people just hoard vs 1 on rust, and its pointless to build or keep anything decent on you

Fallout New Vegas is pretty awesome when you set it to the highest settings. Hell you have to freaking eat or you'll die.

H1Z1, low pop PVE server then. That's your best route.

Be careful at night ;p

This isn't out yet, but Escape from Tarkov looks very very interesting. It's being made by an unknown Russian company. Looks very very good.

Have to find a good server where the people are mostly chill. As for objects of value, that's where the house of collecting stone, wood, and metal comes in. You want to make your base so strong that people turn away in fear of wasting resources to get inside.

Grav looks fun, but I've never pulled the trigger on it. Same with Sub-Nautica.
