Yep.
For GP104 it's silly. But it's the 3 cycle release strategy by nVidia of Little, Full, Big which puts ppl in tough stops.
Plus production is just not there. Not sure if it's an archetecture that nVidia designed that doesn't have good yields or not.

Except for those that don't want two cards. A 1080 replacing 970's worth it at MSRP I will wait until the stock hits the market before buying.

Yeah it will be a great upgrade for you. Still would hold off until supply increasing.

These prices are related to AMD not having competition at the high end, period. The chips are much cheaper per unit than the 980 Tis.

No they aren't. The supply is low for reasons not yet fully realized.
Yes they dont have Vega out but Vega won't even compete with GP104, it's. GP102 competitor anyway.

Yeah that's totally how first-run process shrinks work. Never mind the infrastructure cost and initial yields.

If I had to guess, which I am here, I would say that they are not getting all that great of yields yet on the GDDR5X memory. This is the same thing AMD is going through with the upcoming Vega GPU's and the low yields on the HBM2 memory.

If there are any yield issues with Pascal, it's probably with the 16nm FinFET GPUs. But more likely, NVidia just rushed to be first to market and simply didn't have enough ready to ship.

It doesn't help either that this launch coincided with The Computex show in Taiwan and E3 in LA. I read somewhere that there are around 500 PC's running demos at E3 that all were running 1080's and the majority of the systems shown off at Computex had 1080's in them. nVidia could have purposely held back stock due to those 2 shows and to artificially inflate the price.
I think it is going to be a long time before any AIB partners sell cards for close to nVidia's stated MSRP. This is due to the fact that normal consumers that don't research things will think the FE is better because it is more expensive. The board partners don't want people doing this so they are going to price at or above the FE MSRP. nVidia never should have said the acronym MSRP in regards to the AIB cards in the first place. They should have said minimum advertised price.

Completely off base. Memory is the less of their issues.

Nvidia is not making money from the markups above retail, so the only purpose of holding back stock would be to generate hype. Just like AMD didn't make any money from the inflated pricing during the mining bubble, other than the additional revenue from the sheer volume of units sold.

There's no way in hell I would pay $1000 for a single card. Hell the $700 I payed for my 1080 was my absolute max and I had to talk myself into it. I went from a busted GTX 580 so I think the upgrade was worth it for me but I definitely see the wisdom in waiting.

The pc I've been using since my main one died has a single 280 in it so I feel your pain . Waiting on one last part to come in so I can get my new pc built.
