Tuesday Sep 11th Kol Skullsmasher run. Any level welcome but probably need to be 35+ to survive unless you are ranged.

Rukky and I did this the other night. If you haven't done it yet and can show up I highly recommend it. A great fight with the giant and then several events chained after him. I picked up a full level doing the chain. Chest rewards as well.

I was afraid of that..
The 6,7,8 and 9 keys on the warrior are for buffs but I haven't seen a speed buff for them so far.

I did have a horn equipped but gave that up PDQ.
I'm at level 15, about half way to 16, been working on all the different weapon skills and have maxed about half of those available. I spend too much time doing things that are above my pay grade..well, that and getting the hell kicked out of me when I stray too far from a group.

The game has been a blast so far, many funny moments.. I went rescue a guy who was down while fighting group of Sons. He got them all but one when I happened by, so I jumped in and got my arse kicked quick. As we lay there, all hope gone, the guy said,"lol we dead".

No good deed shall go unpunished.

I let my wife try out a couple of toons on my account this weekend. The first one she made she died on the first heart quest. I told her to hang out someone be there shortly to rez her. Sure enough, along came a nice person and started to rez her, then that person got gang raped by the mobs nearby. There was nobody left to rez anyone, so I went to respawn her at a waypoint. The problem was she didn't have the 4cp needed to even respawn at a waypoint Luckily about 2 minutes later the an event ended that she had killed something for and she got a 10cp reward and that let her respawn at a waypoint.

I can't tell you how many times I have jumped into the fray like Walker, Queensdale Ranger to fight enemies off of a downed player, only for that player to resurrect at a waypoint right when I am about to revive.

fricking possum trolls.

I like when I'm res'ing someone and here comes some meat head with 4 mobs in tow. Runs right past and they all turn on me...

Their are countless ways to troll in this game.

ETA: this also happens a bunch when gathering, some idiot always dumping a crowd while i'm swinging my pick.

Aww hell, that's what they are doing then.

Kinda like that movie where the old guy busts into the cabin on Robert Redford and says "You skin griz?, well skin this un while I go get another."

Ah yes...."training mobs" . A classic MMORPG troll technique

That list of tips posted a page or two back recommended to do this..but with neutral mobs instead

During the first week or so, people would drop their personal golem banks in front of crafting stations or important NPCs to make it difficult to access them. I can't help but chuckle sometimes at how resourceful griefers are.

yeah it's very easy to pull off in this game since no agro table exists. I think it's based on who's the closest to the mob and player health is also considered.

I will say things got sticky a few times along my personal quests and i leave the NPC's to handle the load. Since figuring this out I hardly ever tank a champion anymore....

No agro table? Interesting...

also, being able to deposit all collectables to your bank, without being near a bank, has to be one of the most convenient and awesome things ever

We ran AC last night and I felt like I was being focused quite a bit, even as a longbow ranger. I actually backed off on damage slightly to see if the typical threat mechanic was there, and I seemed to be able to avoid fire more. Could have been a coincidence.

I don't think anyone has quite figured out the mechanics yet. In this game I find it more beneficial for a ranged class to have agro due to the easy ability to kite and dodge. Considering they didn't put any specific skills in the game to increase agro it may just be random or have resets to make sure all players get a break from the beating every so often. I find when I back out of melee range most of the time, but not all, the main target switches to someone else while I get to catch my breath and heal up

Since I was often first in, I was also often first down. They would target me no matter what, even downed. Until I got the hang of the weapons (and switched to GS instead of hammer) things were ok. I'm thinking scepter shield next time we run it if I am support, if we have another melee of course.

I could have my pets pull next time if you'd like.

They have some utility, but nothing that can't be sacrificed. I have my jungle stalker use its ability to increase the party's power by around 100, then switch to the polar bear to freeze (slow) enemies in front of it.

I was going to say, you should be call targeting next time. I can still pull.

But some of those rooms....just wow. Long aggro ranges and event triggers were tricky.

Well done ANet, it was challenging, but fun challenging, not frustrating challenging.

I started targeting eventually, once I got more confident about what we were doing. Whoever said rangers and elementalists are the priority wasn't kidding... their AoEs are catastrophic.

it sounds like some real organizing will need to be done to complete some of these instances. Do you guys know much about combo's or how to utilize them in a group/dungeon setting like this? I have a feeling those kind of small mechanics that people don't pay much attention to (or work together with) will have the ability to make a huge difference when it comes to failure or success. Communication is going to make a comeback it seems like!

As an example, my buddy was talking about how his Elementalist could drop down a frozen ring (like the fire ring) and shoot an arcane ability through the ring which would cause the combo to go off that creates a title wave healing everyone inside the ring.

I'm half way talking out of my arse on this as I haven't actually participated in one of these instances yet, but seeing the chatter hear and listening to some of the "holy shite that was rough" type comments on vent last night while you guys were making the run makes it sound really tough inside those dungeons.

Gonna be a lot of trial and error

I am intrigued by combos too.

Basically, you have abilities noted as "combo fields" and "combo finishers". For example, my ranger's Flame Trap creates an AoE combo field, wherein other abilities labeled as combo finishers can be used in conjunction to create burning effects, fire armor, or might boons.

There are also 4 subcategories of combo finishers - blast, leap, projectile, and whirl finishers.

Here's a link to a diagram for just Ranger combo fields.

So, to use another example, I drop my healing spring, which creates a Water combo field, and another party member uses a "blast finisher", like the Engineer's Big Ol' Bomb. The result is additional AoE healing. Or if someone uses a "whirl finisher", like the thief's Death Blossom, the result is Healing Bolts.

Just because the combo field indicates a type or element doesn't mean that the finisher has to have that same type or element. Anything that says "combo finisher" is fair game.

I hope I explained this somewhat adequately.

I need to do a lot more research. I'm bludgeoning my way through the game. Between not using Discovery during crafting and not using combos I have a long way to go to improve.
