Ate there this evening for the second timeand it is excellent. Local owner, this is his only restaurant. Young caucasian waiter helped us both times and he is extremely knowledgeable on the entire menu as he has been an employee since construction pre-opening. It's worth a visit easily for anyone who enjoys Vietnamese/Thai foods.

I've been there a couple of times and I really enjoy the lemongrass clams. It's a couple of doors down from Phillippe's so when I'm wine shopping I'll stop in for lunch.

Haven't tried those yet but they are on my list for sure. Pineapple fried rice is very interesting and tasty, the beef curry stew and tom yum are both excellent as well we have found.

I will be trying this place soon. Thanks for the recommendation!

Have you tried Blu Basil? How's it compare?

I like Blu Basil as well. Good food, great staff, but a bit pricier. BB tends to be more modern, while Zen is more traditional.
ETA: The great staff at Blu Basil includes Sidney who's waited on me a few times. She's an excellent server. The managers will patrol the dining room too to make sure that drinks are full. I did get a cold shoulder there once. When I dine alone, I don't really care to sit at a table, so I opted to eat at the bar (Peche included for instance). I sat down at the bar and the bartender curtly informed me that the bar is closed and I needed to move. Whatever. Sorry to bother you. I also always want to call that place Blue Ginger because of Ming Tsai's restaurant.

I like them both but have been leaning to Zen lately obviously but Degas hit the nail on the head. Everytime I go into BB my brain still tells me I smell the mongolian bbq/stir fry :)

One more thing that Zen has going for them is that they're open 7 days a week straight through the day. I get my hankering for noodles mid afternoon, which rules out Blu Basil and Maesone who both close at 3 and 2pm respectively each afternoon and are also closed on Sundays. I've had the hot pots (lau) at both Pho Saigon and Blu Basil and can't wait to try Zen's. Saigon Noodles was my go to place, but now I don't have to navigate that horrific Ambassador Caffery (plus, they don't have hot pots.)
