Just got the dual sack cooker from academy. It's the outdoor gourmet brand. Curious of how everyone does the seasoning for 2 sacks at a time.

Kinda hoping it was that simple. Also what about cooking a another sack or another 2 sacks. Half of original seasoning?

I have a 120 qt pot and use 1 1/2 bags of Louisiana Boil for 2 sacks of crawfish.

I was just posting this response in another thread on here and thought it pertained to your question as well....

There was a post a while back where a guy said to use .167 lbs. of powdered seasoning per quart of water. So 40 quarts of water would be almost 7 lbs of seasoning. Didn't matter how many lbs or sacks of crawfish you were putting in the pot.

Before reading that thread, I always put just one 4.5 lb sack of powdered seasoning in my pot (along with my other stuff like onions, some liquid boil, etc.) for 1 sack of crawfish. I haven't tried it this year yet, but his reasoning made sense. Maybe someone can find that thread and link it.

eta: Oh and I saw that dual sack cooker at Academy this weekend. Looked awesome. Not sure how much of a pain it would be to drain somewhere and clean though.

jesus christ ya'll can complicate a crawfish boil.

I pre-mix all my seasoning and use an ice scoop. no measuring. just taste. it's not that hard

Ours can do two, but I prefer to do them one at a time. Extends the party and eating time. We just refresh the water with half a bottle of liquid, another bottle of lemon juice, and more powder based on how batch one tasted.

Just saying you use 5lbs for a sack won't tell you how they will turn out

It's all about the ratio of powder to water. If i put 5lbs of seasoning in 100 gallons of water you wouldnt even know i added anything to the water. Put it in 5 gallons of water and your mouth will be on fire.

The ratio of .167 lb of powder to a gallon of water seems like way too much. Its almost twice as much as I use

I'd like to know people's thoughts on these cookers

They look pretty cool but are pricey and less mobile than a separate burner / pot setup. Burners are relatively cheap and easy to replace. I imagine it may be more difficult with this thing.

It also seems like it would be a pain to try to bring this thing to do a boil not at your house. Maybe they work for some people, but this seems more like an overpriced novelty.

well think is how quick will it bring water to a boil. i mean if it works just as well as my custom double tank/regulator setup, which i doubt it, it would be cool to have.

Thanks for all the replies. I had an extra couch I sold so I decided to invest in the cooker. Typically dont do more than 2 sacks. But got a party that will probably have 4 to do. Plan on doing a sack this weekend to see how it goes.

I would go with 2 packs of chackbay, 3 boxes of salt, 8-16 oz liquid, 20 lemons, 10 onions 6-10 heads of garlic.
