Was out Saturday night at a place I had never been to and ordered an old fashioned.... When I got it, it was basically fruit punch...I'm pretty sure a margarita from applebees would have been less sweet..

Someone else ordered one and I watched this clueless bartenders process:
-muddle 2 sugar cubes IN simple syrup
-once the super syrup is where she wants it, muddle 2 cherries and an orange slice
-tiny pour of bourbon...I watched her make one and she literally held the bottle almost horizontal and drizzled
-a pour from a bottle of light brown liquid that I guess she thought was bitters??
-garnished with more cherries, an orange peel AND a rock candy swizzle stick...

I wanted to send it back, but if she asked what was wrong I literally wouldn't know where to begin. My wife who hates whiskey liked it...but said it was kind of sweet

What yall got?

You would be surprised at how many bartenders at good (or at least pricey) establishments simply pour just gin into a shaker, shake it, and then pour it into a martini glass when I ask for a martini.

Duvics, of all places, once made a dry vodka martini with a hefty pour of sweet vermouth. It was nasty.

Also, dude, "bartender" is not the preferred nomenclature. "Mixologist", please.

Buddy ordered rum and coke at a wedding this weekend, didn't realize the bartender chose to go with vodka and a splash of coke until he took his first huge swig. Never saw his eyes so big

My wife and I were in a Vegas nightclub. I shouted two drinks to the bartender and he asked if I wanted a small glass or large, holding his thumb and index finger apart to approximate size. My dumb arse said large.

He proceeded to fill up two huge souvenir cups and then said to me $86 while flashing his fingers 8-6. I did a double take and just accepted my stupidity and gave him a hundred.

Still use those cups all the time.

That’s funny. Not a $43 drink per say, but to still have the cups around to keep the memories alive. Anything you share with the wife that makes you both chuckle is what those trips are for.

I had my bachelor party in Vegas. We were at a club, that we paid $1100 for the table and then bought a couple of bottles..., and a hot chick asked my friend if he would buy her champagne. He said sure...$500 later, and after she just snobily walked away, he was not so happy. Luckily he didn’t go apeshit like he’s known to do over shite a lot less BS than that.

I went to Bistro Byronz recently and had the worst old fashioned I've ever had. Which again reminded me why I hate going there.

First, it was in some sort of stemless wine glass. Second, it was half full of crushed ice like you get at Sonic. Third, I'm pretty sure it was just Crown, water and few bitters. Third, there was no garnish of any type (no orange peel, or cherry, or any sort of other berry)

I asked the waitress about it and was told "that's how we make them."

Thanks for ensuring I never go to Bistro Byronz..at least not for drinks. To save a fellow 318er from a crappy old fashioned...the fruit punch OF substitute I mentioned above was from wine country bistro

Funny story: I had a buddy I was traveling abroad with do this for a chick in Morocco. After fumbling with his shitty Arabic/her shitty english, he realized he had bought a bottle of champagne for a prostitute.

Ordered JD and Coke, got JB and Coke. Easily misunderstood, but seems a competent bartender would almost want to question that.
Scotch and coke is not drinkable.

At my wedding I was given an old fashioned that was bourbon, orange juice, and a splash of cherry juice on top. From what I recall it wasn't as terrible as you'd imagine and still wasn't the worst old fashioned I've ever had but stood out as probably the weirdest combination I'd ever been given.

Another wedding I attended the bartender's old fashion recipe omitted the orange peel & simple syrup and replaced that with a shot of Cointreau. Also surprisingly not terrible.

Bar at Cafe Adelaide for a pre-meeting meeting with a client. Ordered a mint julep. Bartender gives me something that was not a mint julep. Tasted likes peaches. So I tell him. He makes a new one, still tastes like peaches. I tell him. He says “oops, that was peach simple syrup.” There was something else wrong with it but I couldn’t place it. So on the third one, I watch and realize he’s also putting sour mix in it. We started over for the fourth try, I asked him to just put some mint and simple syrup in then fill it with ice and bourbon. He said he wasn’t from here so that’s why he didn’t know how to make it.
