Is it just me or is that kind of silly? I mean basically you're saying it's not fast food/Taco Bell. IE it's real tacos.

Can't we just call them tacos?

Figured because it is the style street vendors and taco trucks sell

So you get them from the street.

In Mexico there are streets lined with stalls selling tacos. They are small tacos and considered a snack.

Street tacos were literally sold on the street. They would set up little cooking stations and would normally sell them really cheap. The tortilla was much smaller and was easier to hold and walk around. You pretty much only had the choice of pick/no pico and red or green sauce.

Restaurants jumped on the fad and sell them indoors now, and there are tons of variations and extras. They still call them “street tacos” because that’s the style they are made.

I call them "real tacos," as opposed to gringo tacos.

because the authentic "street taco" is different from the gringo commercialized, fast-food restaurant version. Hundreds of years ago (and still today), street vendors in Mexico sold smaller tacos that were made with 4-5" corn tortillas. They were basically an inexpensive snack and laborers also ate them for lunch. They were designed to be held in one hand and eaten quickly, 2-3 bites.

the taco you're familiar and most people make at home on shells is NOT the same

taquerias and food trucks serving authentic Mexican food serve this as street tacos

This, they are all over California and other places. There is a reason they are called that. If you think a taco bell taco is the same as a street taco, then I wouldn't start a thread questioning the nomenclature.

This thread has me craving my neighborhood taco truck for lunch. Homemade corn tortilla (x2), al pastor, caramelized onions, cilantro, and green sauce. So simple. So delicious.

Eta: the $10 price for 5 of them is nice to.

This is exactly the point I'm making. The term "street tacos" is dumb. They're just "tacos". Call them tacos. Otherwise you look like a rube that's never had anything other than Taco Bell or Margs at some chain based in Columbus Ohio.

People use the phrase "street tacos" to inform others that they know nothing about the food of Mexico.

Here's an applicalbe, real-world excercise for you to understand why people use the term "street taco".

Do an internet image search for the word "taco" then do another search but include the word "street" in front of "taco".

There will be many discernable differences between the images for the "taco" query including differnt types of tortillas, fillings, and toppings.

The "street taco" (taco callejero) will contain images with more similarities than differences including the tortialla (always soft corn) and the toppings (mostly chopped onion and cilantro.

Personally, I don't like the term street taco and seldom use it but, it is what it is and I don't think one should become so worked up over it's use, especially when their is historical precedence for it's use.

So on the streets of Mexico they sell tacos and they have a certain style about them. Hence, when they are sold in let’s say a Taqueria in California they will be called Street Tacos so people will understand the style of tacos they can expect.

What can you expect? A small sized corn tortilla, often doubled up, topped with meat, onion, cilantro, and add a sauce. It’s easy to handle and eat while standing or walking in or along the street.

Kind of like a place adverting they sell Chicago style hot dogs.

Some places do call them mini tacos, but in your world that would bother you as well.

Yep. There are plenty taco trucks in Houston that sell street tacos. And they aren't fancy taco trucks. They are little trailers they pull or kind of junky trucks. But they are good!

except Street tacos is a style. If youre getting street tacos, youre getting the same tacos sold on the street. Its no different. Your point makes no sense

Not really. I make a point not to smash my burgers unless I'm making smash burgers.
