re: Why Are Food Trucks Not Allowed In New Orleans?

quote:Dozens of fast food places in New Orleans close their indoors/lobby around 10 or 11 but continue serving food from the drive-thru until 2 or 3 a.m. There are no bathrooms for the last 5 hours of business. Should we shut these restaurants down? Where are the people going to the bathroom at? Also, where is bathroom at Lucky Dog? I'm still searching.
What dodge?
quote:Why?
They must pay fair share of taxes that other restaurants must pay. Not exactly the same, but something reasonably equivalent.
If I pay a dollar in taxes and you pay 10 dollars in taxes, it is unfair. I think we should reduce yours by 9 to make it even and you want to raise mine by 9 to make it even. I want to cut taxes and you want to raise them. Simple. Food trucks and b&m's have different advantages and disadvantages; not paying property taxes is one of them. If you have a problem with it then we should be cutting property taxes for b&m's and not punishing food trucks for something that's not their fault.
quote:I didn't say that would happen, don't know if it could happen, or care if it happens. I only know the city council shouldn't be hindering it if it does.
If "hundreds" of food trucks show up,

No no. Not craft beer. Craft bar. Meaning we'd not only have craft beer, but craft cocktails and wines from places you'd never heard of using grapes you cant pronounce. Its name would be some vague reference to a chemical necessary for fermentation or two nouns connected by an ampersand or maybe just a verb like, but shortened, like M'bibe.

I'd lov eto be able to set up a cooler on Poydras in 10 minutes and sell beers to people leaving the CBD, but there are rules that dont let me do that (except on Saints gamedays). Let's overturn the pesky, prohibitionist liquor rules first.

Let me know when you start booking parties.

In Houston you can't walk around with a beer, but if you pay some clown with a bar masquerading as a people ferry attached to a bike to peddle you around on busy 5 lane streets at 5 MPH, you can get shitfaced. The Law, man, it makes no sense.
These would kill it in nola and make perfect sense btw, but I feel like you'd get the same arguments. ETA: You know if this job falls through I might just have to investigate this.

Disingenuousness is the tool of a guy with a weak argument. I never said pay the same property taxes. Besides, I'm quite sure that street vendors of all types are, in fact, required to get a license and pay a significant fee for the vendor permit. It's not like I pulled that concept out of my arse.

I found that the overall quality of food trucks in Houston to suck. Yes you have some good ones but most of them are nothing special. I found the limited trucks here in NOLA to be better. For the record I'm not a Houston hater and do miss the food scence there.

My best guess would be that New Orleans would need maybe 20-30 food trucks to pull the above off.
Austin has 1000 and they do very well.
But that's because restaurant owners there aren't a bunch of pussies.

I agree with you, I'm pretty sure we're on the same page about everything here.

What about letting the market decide?

Explain how the economy is reaping a large benefit from this? Taxes? Adding jobs, that if successful, will have other people cutting back?

I just want some food trucks within walking distance of where I work because there is NOTHING around right now.
