I was in HEB today and a regular dozen of white, large eggs was $3.88.

Two years ago at the height of the scamdemic they were $0.88.

I know inflation is ridiculous, but this is insane.

Eggs don't travel overseas so shipping costs don't factor into their cost.

Why are they so expensive?

One thing is that the nation has lost about 35 million hens to avian influenza in 2022. Total flock in the US is about 390 million normally.

The wife only buys brown eggs. They were $4.56 for a dozen at the cheapest brand.

I literally couldn’t tell you the last time I bought eggs. Move to a rural area with “neighbors” that have chicken houses, even if their production lessens they’ll give away the double yolk eggs

I've been complaining about egg prices to my wife for months. We eat 2 dozen a week and I'm paying double for them from what I was 2 years ago. It's crazy.

As mentioned, avian flu knocked out the chickens and feed prices are up.

When eggs are high, the products that use eggs are too, such as mayonnaise.

Man you're not kidding! I can't wait for ours to start laying. We have 12 that are getting real close to laying age.

Walmart: $4.72 for a jumbo dozen.
Dorignac's: about two dollars more.

Eggs is something I’ve really started paying attention to with weekly sales.

Last several times I’ve bought them Egglands Best were cheaper than generic. That makes no sense to me.

Eggland Best have been cheaper, which is strange. I started buying them because they were suddenly significantly cheaper than store brand, but last week at Sam's the 18 count pack increased from $3.62 to $5.98. Egglands Best, no mas.

I have started buying yard eggs from locals for $3-4 a dozen.

If I am going to pay that price, I'm going with homegrown. I want chickens, but my HOA is averse. We shall see...
