Agreed -- fresh tomatoes and fresh sweet corn are two of life's simpler pleasures.

Pleasures indeed.

Had a tomato and thin sliced sweet onion on white bread with Blue Plate mayo and an ear of corn on the side, last night. One of the best meals of the week along with caprese salad and an ear of corn.

I have not been eating straight tomato sandwiches because I'm a red-blooded American man and sandwiches require meat.

So, instead, both tomatoes and bacon have been suffering heavy casualties at my house since tomatoes came into season. There's not much better than some Benton's bacon and thick slices of vine-ripe tomatoes on toast slathered with mayo.

I'd report on how lettuce is faring, but everybody knows that lettuce is just there for structural integrity and texture, and nobody really cares about lettuce.

Real men eat tomato sandwiches. And grilled cheese sandwiches.

That's right.

They eat quiche, too. I made a few corn quiches last week when I had an abundance of fresh picked corn. So good and quite a few real men loved it.

I had my first one today with some thin sliced sweet onion. I think I could have eaten 3 of them, it was so good.

White bread, Blue Plate mayo and fresh salted tomatoes....It's just ridiculous how much of this I want to eat.
