What do you guys suggest for a guy who's not really a whisk(e)y/bourbon drinker, but looking to ease into it?

just a simple smooth introductory spirit?

I'd start with something lower proof and lower on the rye... Eagle rare, buffalo trace, Elijah Craig, Evan Williams single barrel, etc etc...

Dont go looking for all the fancy shite you hear people talking about like van winkle or George t stagg. You won't find them and there is tons of good stuff out there that's always on the shelf.

A great starter that wont blow your socks off. Makers 46 also goes down very easily to me.

honorable mentions: Weller 12, weller reserve, Buffalo trace, Elijah craig, Evan williams single barrel, EH Taylor Small batch or Single Barrel, Blantons, Rock Hill Farm, High west son of bourye(delicious IMO), and last but not least tGOAT AKA dat benchmark doe

had an old man i used to work with drink Elijah Craig?
is that a good starter?

my brother is a johnnie walker blue guy and i could barley drink it. i guess it's like craft beer, you gotta get your feet wet before jumping in the deep end.

It'll be a lil more "stout" than the other two you mentioned but very very good.

That was the scotch that made me never want to drink scotch again I'm just starting to flirt with the idea of edging into the scotch world.

JWB is a beginner scotch for rich teenage boys looking at frat rush

It has no character

I can drink it like water

no reason to slow down and check for nuances

Today's haul. Replacing an old standby and trying something new. I will be comparing it to the double wood.
