Im planning on getting Lagavulin 16 next, is there another islay that y'all recommend instead?

Lagavulin 16 is my favorite Islay. I had another good one at Lock & Key made by Kilchoman, but I can't remember exactly which one.

Ardbeg Auriverdes was also quite good.

Don't know if I'd recommend it over Lagavulin 16 but i've really enjoyed the Ardberg 10 year

Alright you scotch drinkers, I need your advice. Want to buy my cousin a bottle of scotch, $100 range. He knows he likes scotch but couldn't tell me anything more than that, where's a good place to start him off?

Not a scotch drinker but I'll throw out a couple haha. Islay: Lagavulin 16. Non-Islay: Glenfidich 18 or Glenlivet 18. All $100 or under. I don't think you can go wrong with the Balvenie DoubleWood but that's only about $50

See I heard Lagavulin is not something you want to jump into as a new scotch drinker. I think my cousin is pretty inexperienced when it comes to that stuff. But I dunno, could be wrong. And I like Balvenie's scotches but I've heard they aren't worth the cost?

I would say the Double Wood is 100% worth the cost at around $50. From advice I have recieved I would say Glenfiddich 15. I can't vouch for it but it's next on my list of scotches based on other's recommendations.

Completely agree about the Lagavulin 16 not being something you want to just jump into, it could turn someone off scotch real fast haha

I have not. I just wanted to get an Islay bottle to compare to the speysides & highlands I have.

The best thing you can buy is not a Scotch but a Japanese whisky called Hibiki 12. It used to be $55-60 a bottle. FYI- the Japanese whisky industry is modeled on scotch and has many similar tasting notes. Take the remainder of your cash and buy a cheap single malt like Glenfiddich 12. You can then enjoy and compare the two spirits.

For a single bottle near the price point: Dalmore has a nice Cigar Malt, and if you like high strength booze, Aberlour's A Bunadh is a non-chill filtered cask strength spirit.

Preface this by saying I'm not a huge scotch drinker but I bought a bottle of Balvenie Caribbean Cask and I really liked it.

It's good. Not as much burn as i was expecting. I did have to add a few drops of water though.
