Really ? Do I also need to buy milk for $6 at Carters "to support them" instead of $4 at Albertsons..Maybe I'll pay $30 for some crappy paint at Holmes instead of better paint at Sherwin Williams..Maybe we should let the shops that will be creating jobs off Juban know that they shouldn't hire anyone over say 20 ?

Like a meth head looking in a mirror and being awfully depressed at the reflection they're seeing, but never stopping to contemplate that the image is as a direct result of their own addiction.

It is the way it is because it's self created by local government and the decisions we all make when we spend our money.

Yeah, you had me up until this...

If I have to be a USC or Bama fan to support local business then I'll just spend my money at Walmart and let them invest the profits off their chinese plastic crap in their own local community instead of supporting my neighbors business. /sarcasm

All of them when I have an alternative and given a choice in the matter. For groceries I choose locally owned and operated, farmers markets that local farmers set up to sell their produce, or protein from local chicken farms, and pork and beef producers. I'm there just about every weekend. For restaurants I almost always choose local when it's my choice to make and when there is a choice in the matter, and I will always pick that place that I know buys from locals. When I shop for clothes and there is a choice in the matter I choose local, and when shopping for others in gifts I do the same at local gift shops, boutiques, stores, etc, etc. When shopping for hardware and the like I do the same when it is practical and within driving distance. And besides just the economic side, I almost always get far superior service to boot, or I'll choose another.

Carters or Albertsons...Which one would you choose

Albertsons in a heartbeat. I have no reason to support a small grocery that offers me 25% of the selection with typically lesser quality brands, and shitty meat quality, and a produce section with the variety and selection I can get at a convenience store. Oh, and don't bother asking about special requests. Carter's is a joke unless you just need to refill the ice chest of Milwaukees Best for your Saturday nite trailer party.

They had problems with how they wanted the entrance to the parking lot. It will be a 2014 construction beginning and opening.

Here's the article in the Livingston News.
quote:

DENHAM SPRINGS — Work should begin soon on construction of a location for a popular fast food chain that plans to open on Range Avenue.

Denham Springs Mayor Jimmy Durbin said Tuesday that the plans for a Chick-fil-A at the site of the old Chinese Inn will move into gear by early next year.

“Yes, it’s going to happen,” he said. “It’s just a matter of ironing out the technicalities, and that should be done by the end of the year.”

The fast food chain – based in the Atlanta suburb of College Park, Ga. – announced plans earlier this year to open in the high-traffic area on Range, just north of Rushing Road.

But representatives from the fast food chain first had to find common ground on the full entrance and exit from Range Avenue.

“They have been approved for full ingress-egress (entry and exit) on Range Avenue,” Durbin said.

The state Department of Transportation and Development initially wanted to improve a “right in, right out only” system for Range.

Representatives from Chick-fil-A appealed the DOTD ruling, but Durbin said he went to bat for the fast food chain.

The DOTD has since agreed to a full entrance – left in/left out, right in/right out, he said.

“It was great that we could accomplish that,” Durbin said.

The DOTD is still mulling over a request for an entrance off Rushing Road, just past the Subway standalone restaurant.

“That would be an exit only, not an entrance,” Durbin said. “That’s something DOTD would have to approve.”

Chinese Inn, the current occupant of the land parcel sought by Chick-fil-A, has been closed more than five years.

The eatery closed after Hurricane Gustav in 2008.

Durbin does not believe, however, that construction on Chick-fil-A before the start of 2014.

“Another factor here is that national corporations have a set number of stores they build each year, so this one in Denham Springs will most likely be a 2014 construction and opening,” Durbin said.

The fact that 0 of these are in Denham only shows your obliviousness..

I go to the BR farmers market every few weekends..Other than that, there really isn't anywhere else "local" that I support..I don't need to..They don't have what I need, so I get it where I can..

Depends I guess on the industry, but for groceries it's fairly obvious by the products on the shelf or if you're buying straight from the local, as sadly most local retailers don't even buy much local product, but some do much better than others in attempting to. For restaurants however, it's a lot word of mouth, even more social media, and people you run into at the farmers market who sell to these restaurants.

I never said I lived in Denham. The issue was about local, nd if Denham is local for you, and you don't support it, that's on you, not me, even as I live here and if I don't support my local business and industry, then it's on me.

Follow me, or do I need to keep dumbing this down some more?

And here we are, back to staring in the mirror.

It's a vicious circle. We don't have many choices because we made bad choices, but rather than make better choices when we can, we continue to make bad choices, look at the effect, and say "see, there are few other choices"

We my not have started the fire, but I'll be damned if we don't continue to blow on it and pour gas on it so to keep it going, and if you don't, then you must be from outer space, a socialist, or worse, a Bama or USC fan.

it's frickin hilarious.

Typical.."Do as I say,not as I do"...You had no issues criticizing the businesses bringing jobs to a small area, but then when called out, you don't even patronize that area anyway..Feel free to @gmail me if you'd like to discuss what others are doing wrong that you don't approve of, but are not affected in any way by.

Your gotcha moments aren't working out too well for you. Perhaps next time, you'll decide to attack to subject matter than the person. Heck, never know. Maybe you will learn something or maybe just be exposed to something you haven't thought about without being threatened by this wild crazy conspiracy you have in your head, the same that every generation prior to 1950 understood as just normal frickin life.... Support your local economy and neighbors.... Oh crap... That's way out there... must be a socialist.
