The last gun show I went to the security guard at the parking garage asked me if I had a gun, then he asked if I had a knife, finally he asked if I had a pressure cooker.

From the looks of that kitchen that's obviously a low budget operation. Probably and old poorly maintained pressure cooker picked up at a garage sale that exploded because of a faulty/ stuck pressure release valve.

Modern pressure cookers are nothing to be afraid of and are really great for making ham stocks and red beans. That's what I'm doing tomorrow.

Wish me luck.

Wow that is crazy, I've never seen or heard of something like that happening.

Define old.

My Mom has used the same pressure cooker for about two decades. That said, she's always made sure the seal and valve is functioning properly. Makes a fantastic roast.

Why isn't there gumbo on the back splash, vent hood, & ceiling?

I spy onions, sausage, and rice on the counter. With no liquid noticeable anywhere, my guess is it was on and empty.

I like this picture better. The chili shadow brings everything together.

Seriously, though, be VERY careful with pressure cookers. They operate at 15 psig. If those things were in chemical plants, they'd require a dedicated pressure relief system, a lengthy calculation and report validating that the design of the system meets code, and a regular maintenance and testing program.

15 psig will murder you until you are dead if you give it half a chance.

I'll be on the lookout for those pressure cookers that release pressure. Thanks for your response

. You know how fast that thing would be flying to stick in the ceiling like that?

pretty damn fast as it not only went into the ceiling, it also destroyed the hood vent.

My pressure cooker has a little rubber plug on the top that will fail long before the actual lid fails

There's basically 3 pieces that all need to malfunction before that is possible. My PC is a modern, yet cheap and simple model.

I imagine those older ones don't have as many relief outlets.
