I'd say either 2010 or 2011

Clusterfrick of try-hards. I'm probably peacing out this weekend. There is still good music and food, but the crowd is too much.

Nothing rustle jimmies like something becoming popular in New Orleans.

No kidding.

It's especially awesome when it rustles non-natives.

Early 2000's but I'm cool with what it has become.

It's the New Orleans way.

But yes, FQF is a clusterfrick of crowds.

Too crowded? Isn't the festival spread throughout the entire French Quarter?

I like FQF but I agree with this sentiment

Its really 2 or 3 areas that get real crowded. Of course last year, they reported that 800k people went. Which is basically the entire population of Greater New Orleans Metro area, so they must be doing something right.

Isn't it the largest free festival in the US?

Strawberry Fest is a good alternative. Well, not good. But it's there if heady wants out of town for a few hours.

Some great art too.

I never thought of fqf as a big deal at all until a few years ago when it started blowing up.

It was great when it was on the not a big deal side and it was something to go to and have a good time. Now (almost like every festival in New Orleans) it has turned into a bunch of facebook/instagrammers trying to show how Nola they are and out Nola each other.

Almost like how ridiculous King's day has become where there is hysteria over king cakes that day. I'm waiting for them to declare a city holiday for it at this point.

Some people will complain about every and anything. Just avoid the river stages. City government is basically bankrupt, and voters are not in a mood to pay higher taxes. So, the city needs huge turnouts at festivals and associated events to get the hotel/motel taxes, rental car fees and sales taxes.
