If it's bourbon, any of the Four Roses Single Barrel Cask Strength selections are superb, as are the Orphan Barrel selections (I'm partial to Lost Prophet). Angel's Envy, Eagle Rare, and Wild Turkey Rare Breed are great in their price range.
If it's scotch whiskey, I'm partial to any selection from MacAllan or Balvenie (I'm a sucker for Speyside whiskeys, apparently)...

I'm from NELA so my whiskey of choice is no longer made, Old Charter 10 year. Since they stopped making it, I've switched to scotch.
