Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year, and I love picking wines to go with the meal.

If you have a number of guests over, choosing the right wine is tricky. You want to serve wines that are good enough to please your guests who appreciate good wine, while keeping in mind that some guests who may not be wine enthusiasts will probably take a sip or two and leave their half-full glass on the table to be dumped down the drain. So I'm not going to serve my best wines, but I'm not going to serve an everyday house wine either.

This year I'm thinking of serving a 2012 Tensley Winery BMT (which is a 75/25 blend of syrah and grenache). I have it in a magnum, so it might be enough for the 7 people who will be eating dinner since some of them will only take a few sips. But just in case, I have a 2014 Ampelos Cellars Viognier on standby.

How about you?

Liberty School and Simi Cab. White wine drinkers are bringing their own.

I found 6 bottles of 2012 Stanly Ranch Cherry Pie at the store this weekend. Guy there said he was shipped it by mistake. I've been a fan but it's never been available here before.

Not got them yet but planning to pick up an Alsatian Reisling or Pinot Blanc, a Cote Du Rhone red, and perhaps an American Zin. Those are my Thanksgiving standards.

I haven't tried the 2012, but the 2010 was outstanding.

I like those choices. A few years back I served two bottle of zinfandels that came from different vineyards from the Howell Mountain AVA in Napa Valley. They were both a big hit.

Had an Alsatian gewurtz recently that had me wondering why I don't buy more Alsatian wines. Very nice wine and reasonably priced too.

My buddy will have three different homebrews on tap in his garage for the pre-game football watching, and i'll bring some Lil Sumptin. Will toast w/some champagne, then prolly have some Cade SB with the turkey/main meal, then finish w Cade Howell mountain Cab. May need to Uber it home. Contemplating my bike route to his house the next morning to pick up my vehicle.

One of my honey holes put this out on the racks. I didn't question the price, but if stored properly it's a steal. Probably break out Frank Family cab after this one is gone.

A 2010 Turnbull Cabernet Fortuna given to me by my friend Peter Heitz and a 2012 Limerick Lane Russian River Zinfandel.

I'm sure the others will have some just as nice. And this particular Thanksgiving we are doing with friends ( as we normally do and travel - then spend Christmas with family) that really have some nice wines, which is always fun.

I just sunk my deboned turkey into a brine. A standing rib will be done as well so the wines will be in good company food wise which is what I enjoy.

Too many people coming to my house this year to open a good bottle. I will open several bottles of J Lohr Cab and Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio (because these are what they know) and they will like it.

Beaujolais Nouveau is really good this year. I like the Bouchard but the George Deboeuf is good as well, just a little more "thin" but both are really fruity.
