I've got a Brinkmann barrel charcoal pit with a side firebox for smoking.

BGE (large) - expensive but worth it; don't ever envision going back to gas again.

I have always wanted a quality pit. About 5 years ago after much research I decided on one built by David Klose at bbqpits.com located in Houston. If you hit the thing with a sledge hammer you will dent the hammer. I have two ash pans that weight about 20 lbs. each. He has been featured on the food network several times.

What I like is his forum, you can ask questions and get answers from those who compete with their cooking.

Nice set up, but your grass sucks.

You must have the biggest yard In da River Ranch, OT Ballaer!

I think I have a similar one. Works great but I have had to do some maintenance on it, specifically the bottom frame like it sounds like you're talking about.

I like mine overall but they could have done some things to make it better without driving the price up much.

This is my every day pit

But this is the one I usually use when I am in a hurry at the house. Mine doesn't have the box on it though.

It is made by Texas Pit Crafters
