There are super hit or miss. Some of their styles are not popular for a reason.
Yeah, i don't care for Bayou Teche. Yes, they make a lot of different beers in a year. I think 19 or so. But, they have yet to make one that was good. I'm not even talking great, but just good. I don't search out anything from them, and any beer i do buy from them, i only buy once. I listened to the owner on a podcast a while back. He sounds like a good guy, but they fail to deliver. Very average brewery.
I don't know about underrated, but Founders is one of my favorites of the breweries here in the last 5 years.
Founders Porter = my favorite porter and is always in my fridge
Founders Breakfast Stout = One of my favorite stouts
Centennial IPA = Solid IPA

Cocodrie
Miel Sauvage (mead, but I count it)
Loup Garou
Biere Joi aged for at least a year.

peach IPA? Cocodrie? Miel Sauvage? Saison D'ecrevisses? Coteau Rodaire?

I agree with bugs, all average beers that i wouldnt buy.
Other half is my pick for underrated brewery. They make some great ipas and are rarely discussed.

When given other options, there are only about 5 Louisiana beers I would buy. That doesn't mean they aren't good beers, just beers that I can find better examples of.

Loup Garou is a good to great beer.
I love Cocodrie.
The peach IPA is the single IPA that I have out of Louisiana

You might not like the styles because of the malt presence, but some BT beers are above average. Coteau Roudaire is an amazing beer, and Cocodrie is a welcome change of pace for most beers made in LA.

A wiseman once told me bayou teche's tagline should be "you'll only buy it once."

Saison D'ecrevisses?

OK, but not great. I even like the styles, but not big on the beers. It's nothing i seek out.

Voo Ka Ray is ok to me but not something I would seek out with other options available. Kingfish, like you said it isn't my style either.
would Southern Prohibition be underrated? I mean outside of Louisiana and Mississippi people know nothing about them it seems. (Just from my conversations)

Hmmm. It seems places that have a very small regional distro have to produce some real homerun beers to get hype. Think Fremont, Hill Farmstead, The Alchemist, Treehouse, etc..
So the question becomes does SoPro produce anything worthy of generating that kind of acclaim? Or even acclaim that it should be known more broadly than it is? It's a valid discussion.

Brooklyn
Sierra Nevada
I think Saint Arnold might be a tad underrated.

but it usually isn't loud praise like most breweries - Sierra Nevada.
They make damn strong beer at a very, very reasonable price. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is my go to daily beer.

quote:Dunno, I don't think I've ever had any of the special release beers. I've only had the IPA, Sinister Minister, and Pow Rye in Kisser from the Cicada series and enjoyed all 3 very much. Their regular line up of Fire Ant, Jack the Sipper, Devils Harvest, and SuzyB are alright. SoulGlo is a nice saison imo.

Never had Crowd Control, Barely Legal, Lazarus, or the barrel aged stuff.
