The only one in recent memory is a place here in town called Rotolo's.
There was little taste to the sauce. Like your experience, the pizza itself was very thick and we ordered hand tossed. It looked more like thick bread with cheap sauce on it.
Even the toppings where pretty lame, like they had been there for a few days. The pepperoni wasn't good, the italian sausage was really dry, no juice in it at all.
It's pretty hard to mess up a pizza but they did it. Twice. Not going back there again.

I must have lucked out, but I have never had pizza so bad that I couldn't eat it. The most mediocre pizza I have ever had would be CiCi's. I LOVED the square school cafeteria pizza, and I wish I could find a place to buy some that aren't in a huge bulk package.
Kinda like the joke: "What does pizza and sex have in common?" Even when it's bad, it's still pretty damn good.

Totino's pizza is probably the worst, even worse than cafeteria pizza. Even store brand pizza's were better.

Deano's Marie Laveau. Greasy with canned crabmeat & an awful stink. Eaten it twice, ordered by others, & both times myself & others who ate it had a bad case of the you know whats. Deano's isn't my favorite pizza but I'll eat it as long as it isn't a Marie Laveau

Donato's BBQ Chicken pizza. It was a new item on their menu at the time. Hopefully they took it off the menu, or improved it.
