So I bought 3 Pinpoint Oxford Shirts from Paul Fredrick for $19.99 each (a steal), opened the package and saw this $100 Wine Voucher for Wall Street Journal Wine Club. Hard to resist at these prices so I pulled the trigger.

Grand total for a 12 bottle case + 3 Bonus bottles + tax + shipping = $93.48 (Avg. $6.23/bottle). No obligation. There's even a money-back guarantee if you don't like them - and you don't have to send them back.

Too god to be true or junk? Anybody out there ever try these?

I did it last year and it worked out well. Most of the 12 were great and I enjoyed getting wines and fact sheets from around the world that I normally wouldn't drink

You have to call and cancel and they try to sell you pretty hard to continue, but it didn't bother me.

Overall it's a good deal for the first batch. It's kind of like the old music CD clubs where you get a bunch up front and they bank on you sticking around buying more at regular price

At a frequency of once per quarter, that's a hit I think I could live with. I plan on sending some to my kids. Great biz gift too, I'm thinking. Just want to make sure it's not just glorified grape juice.

Oh yeah.... Columbia Records CD Club - I remember it well.

No. They have some decent wines. It's certainly fine, particularly for those who are just beginning (or are near the beginning of) their journey into wine.

My criticism of it (and it's not a criticism that is attributable solely to the WSJ wine club) is that they rely on the mediocre "fillers" to complete each case a little too much. By that I mean out of a case, you'll have maybe 4 or 5 that are "very good" or "interesting" or "new discoveries" and the rest are "oh yeah, that one again" type of wines.
