I have a co-worker heading to NOLA for 5 days and he is an vegetarian. What are some of the better vegetarian options in the city?

I warned him that he may be eating LOTS of salad.

Green Goddess has some good vegetarian options.

Also try Cafe Bamboo on Esplanade.

Most don't.

Thanks for the suggestions. I never heard of Italian Barrel either.

Looked it up. It appears to be where the old La. Pizza Kitchen was in the Quarter.

Never heard anything about it. You been there solo?

Y.A., I've been there a bunch and it is fantastic. Great atmosphere. It is next to the LPK. It is overpriced, but I enjoy it so much I don't care about that.

Lasagna, Osso bucco, meat plate, cheese plate, itallian meatloaf and ravioli are all in my rotation.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

So, the Pizza Kitchen is still open? When I searched for the place, it looked to be exactly where I thought that was.

I don't eat eggs as a meal. But if egg is in something like mayo, I eat it.....and I drink milk. I even eat refried beans w/ lard.....I'm not crazy strict but I'm pretty good about avoiding meat.

Really cool place. Great salumi and good Italian wines.

My girlfriend is vegetarian so it makes finding restaurants tough...

She really enjoyed Taj Mahal (in Metairie) and Cafe Mona though

Been wanting to go to Italian Barrel for awhile. The list is long, and always getting longer. I just saw an article on Gambit yesterday that mentioned a new tapas place uptown, explicitly mentioning lots of veg items. [LINK]

Doesn't seem like a veggie place, but Gumbo Shop in the quarter has a vegetarian special every day which is usually pretty tasty, as well as a couple of other veggie options (gumbo, sandwiches). It would be an especially good choice if you were with a group who wanted to eat more Louisiana-type food.

I like Italian barrel...good but pricey for what it is. The lesbians are keeping it open with their surplus cash since the owner likes the box.
