My wife and I recently moved to the Hammond area, would be interested in hearing some nicer dinner reservation recommendations for Valentines day in the area if you all have any...

Thanks.

Jacmel Inn would be perfect for this, especially if the weather is cold and they have all of their fireplaces going.

This place seems legit, what's the attire?

You will see everything from jeans and polos to a suit and tie. It's a special night so why not go all out and dress to the nines?

I would stay off the perimeter of the restaurant because it may be a bit drafty (closed in porch area) and ask to sit near one of the fireplaces. It's been about a year since I last dined there and I found it quite good.

i'm not a big fan of jacmel, others are though so it is an option. i am a big fan of tope la however. been a few times recently and its fantastic. i would think you'd be happy with it, its very nice inside and the food is great

welcome to hammond BTW
once you exhaust the local dining options (and you will, quickly) you'll find that the 20 minute drive down 190 to covington is well worth the time

I second tope la, jacmels just hasn't been very good the last few times. But jacmel does have the tope la beat on the ambience.

Also welcome to Hammond, America. It's a nice little city with a decent downtown area, I usually stick to Brady's, mariners and tommys pizza but throw tope la in on Tuesdays for lunch menu night.

I'm actually out in Albany but didn't think Erdey's or McDonalds would impress the wife on Valentines...thanks for the recommendations!

burge if you are up for some socializing I could always stand to meet some new people, we kinda keep to ourselves out in the sticks a little too much

We are on the Brady's/Mariners/tommys circuit as well, mix in Carrettas and Kirin occasionally. tope la was killer, thanks for steering us there

I like Thai Greenleaf on W. Thomas quite a bit, probably doesn't have the right atmosphere for Valentine's Day dinner though.

The Steakhouse is one of my favorite places ever, and they usually do a special menu on Valentine's day with limited selections but some things that aren't normally on the menu. Just don't wait last minute, places fill up and you are stuck going to Applebee's (happened to a friend a few years ago, needless to say their relationship didn't last much longer after that night).

Incase anyone was wondering, I decided to try Jacmel Inn for Valentine's and have reservations. I will be checking out Tope La soon as well though, it was a tough decision between the two.

I prefer Jacmel, but it has been a couple of years since I have been. You should enjoy it.

My opinion of the Hammond area is that they have fantastic casual restaurants, but their nicer establishments are more good than great. You should look into some Covington trips to hit up Del Porto, Ox Lot 9 and Mac's on Boston.
