Upperline Review

Went to Upperline last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quaint little dimly lit restaurant with two seperate dining rooms. Ample parking in front. Wait staff were friendly and helpful. Some older lady who I believe was the owner came by for a brief visit towards the end of our meal. Appetizers were probably my least favorite. Girlfriend ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes with Remoulade Sauce and i had the P&J Oysters St. Claude. Oysters were fried and tasty but nothing special. Fried green tomatoes were good but they friggin drowned the dish in Remoulade sauce. Suggest sauce on side for anyone ordering. Girlfriend ordered Filet for entree. Was cooked to a perfect med rare with a nice crust on the outside. Was a nice steak. Merlot sauce on side of course. We hate when restaurants drown a good steak in sauce.. Salt/ pepper, and butter only. I had the Slow Roasted 1/2 Duckling with ginger peach sauce. this dish was on The Best thing I ever Ate in 2011 as it should have been. Easily the best thing I have ever ordered or tasted...The tender duckling is marinated all day in a ginger soy i believe and slow cooked overnight... With slight crispy skin and moist, succulent meat, it was by far last meal worthy. Honey-pecan Bread Pudding with Toffee Sauce for dessert.. Toffee sauce was superb and the dish was delicious. Was missing a scoop of ice cream though. Plop a scoop of vanilla in the middle of that warm heavenly sauce with the crunchy pecans and you are in heaven my brethren.. One of my new favorites and highly suggest Esp if you get the duck.

Thanks for the review. Upperline is on my bucket list to visit on my next overnight trip to New Orleans. The owner's name is Joanne Clevenger and she's an old friend from my college days in New Orleans (many moons ago).

This place is amazing. Glad you enjoyed it. I enjoy living one block away.
Try the garlic port sauce on the duck next time.
Also my favorite appetizer there is the shrimp and jalapeño cornbread.

Thanks for the review. I have reservations there on Dec 6 and we will be having their Reveillon menu. Very much looking forward to it.

We do enjoy it there - always a really good to great meal. As you experienced - there times one of the courses is good, but left a little to be desired. Kind of a potential vs. execution thing.
I love the summer garlic lovers menu. We go at least once while thats going on every year.

Nice review. Glad you enjoyed it.
I haven't been in a year or so, but my last visit was less than stellar. The most recent review from a friend of mine was severely negative.
I know Upperline has gone through some changes recently so I need to give them another try.
I hope they have their act together because it is an interesting place.

I went while the prior chef was in the kitchen and had an outstanding meal but I know he left early this year. I hope the negatve experience wasn't while he was there (Dave Bridges) as he is a great guy.
His turtle soup is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The duck was incredible as well.

Was it roasted with mango salsa?
