I don't think their beers are great. I think people buy them because of the name or the design on the cans. They did a good job with all of that

They have a reserve line or something that is definitely a notch up.

This stuff is pretty good and what we drink at home. The Breakfast Blend, Columbian, and House Blend are in our rotation. I prefer their medium to medium dark roast stuff.

Parish is the only brewery worth a shite in this state IMO

When I walk out Yankee stadium into the bar across the street and 3 of the 6 taps are Abita thats pretty strong IMO.

It's cool to not like Abita anymore. Funny how things work around here.

Na, most of the true mavens are too old and established to be hipsters.

Abita has put out some of the better beers in the last 2 years. People will point to their regular lineup as some sort of mockery. Whatever, they have put out more quality beers in the past two years than almost any other brewery in La. Hate on.

I guess it was also not cool to like them 4 years ago when I lived and Nashville, and didnt know where they were from (I'm not from LA) and their stuff was shitty.

Or,

If its cool to not like shitty beer, then I guess I'm pretty cool.

...you actually seem kinda douchey. But that's just my opinion. Most of the dedicated beer guys on here don't think Abita is anything special, so you're not exactly some elite minority. We can respect their business model (they friggin' print money, it's hard to argue with that) while wishing they used it to better their product.

And as for your glaring omission of NOLA, well, that's just a sign that you don't know what you're talking about. And while I can't vouch for it, the North LA bros say great things about Great Raft. I'd say it's a little early in the game to declare Parish the only one that matters, especially when their flagship bottles are fairly average by "maven" standards. Oh, and you still can't buy the damn things in NOLA. Still can't understand that.

I think the issue a lot of people have with Abita is that we know they can make good beer, the Select series is evidence of that, but they refuse to bottle their good beers or make them a part of their regular lineup. Instead we get the fruited wheat beer of the month club.

This is nothing new, but it has nothing to do with being cool. Abita's regular lineup is pretty meh. They have the ability to make good beers, as evidenced by their select beers, but they don't make them available.

Nail on the head. That's basically what I was getting at.
