I was highly disappointed in Big Bad Baptist in Utah. There were a couple local beer that were much better than that one.

I'm not saying it was bad, but it in no way, shape or form deserves the hype IMO. It was the thinnest stout I've ever had. Had it at the brewery, then bought a bottle to try it again and the same result.
They had a couple IPAs I'd rank higher and I put their brown ale on par with it.

Ah it's a little old. Was wondering how Transmigration of Souls beat Tropicalia in GA

If you were able to purchase a bottle on demand, then it's understandable why the beer would be sub-par.

its not a bad list, would have been cool to see 2nd & 3rd's
but we all know these lists are always subjective. It is all a matter of opinion of what YOU like.
but reading it i noticed that about a 1/4 of the list was IPA's so with freshness being key
my question is how long after the bottling date would you purchase an IPA?

while atrial is a wonderful offering, i think they should place a production minimum on "best beer" lists
atrial is so hard to get

Well, in Utah every beer over 4% abv can only be bottled. So everything I searched for was readily available. Therefore, Utah is a shitty state.

I agreed, hell South Carolina's is Four Roses BA Mexican Cake.
Arkansas' best beer is rated 3.77... lol

That Arkansas beer is awful. Nothing from diamond bear is worth a shite.
Best Arkansas beers that are actually canned or bottled:
Lost 40 APA
Ozark Beer Co. APA.
Ozark Beer Co, Golden Belgian.
Fossil Cove La Brea Brown

Well obviously. I found this list more in line with my thinking.

Most top American beer lists lean heavily towards IPAs and higher gravity stouts/porters. Rarity gets you a few points in high demand markets. You'd be hard pressed to find most of those beers taking up shelf space.
Hops or roasty grains + alcohol - supply = high score

I'd purchase and drink within 3 months of the date.

This is somewhat flawed as well due to the fact that BA has a lot of beers on the site that don't have official BA ratings assigned to them. I don't know if a beer has to have a certain number of reviews or a certain distribution area in order to get an official rating or what.
All of the Arkansas beers I listed have reviews with scores (and a higher average review than the one they picked) on the site, but they don't have an official BA score.
Basically, they went with a Diamond Bear (easily the worst brewery in the state) because their beers are the only ones with official BA ratings.

I think 5/6 months is the shelf life for most IPA's before they start turning.

Nope. 3 months. Obviously each beer is different, ive found some thatve tasted good after 6 months and some fall off after 6 weeks.

Pet peave is breweries that don't date the bottles. For this reason, I drink very few bottled IPAs. Many of the small breweries in Oregon don't date their bottles. I'm pretty selective about where I buy beer. Even on draft, I go to places that have a high turnover rate on their beer. I've been burned when I've ordered an IPA in a restaurant and either it wasn't fresh, or they had not cleaned their tap lines.
Same with bottles. Don't buy an IPA from a gas station...
