I don't think Memphis and KC are comparable. KC burnt tips are the best I've had anywhere. And KC is largely based on preparation, and less so sauce or dry rubbing.

Arthur Bryant's I think in the bad part of town is where a lot of D Presidential candidates, jazz musicians and famous people have gone.

It's been a while, so I might have the name wrong.

McClard's is the most overrated place I ever seen. It's average to bad BBQ. It was dry and did not have a good smoke flavor. There are way, way better BBQ places in Arkansas, they're just in all those little small towns nobody knows about.

For Arkansas -- go to Jones' BBQ.

I like Smitty's if i am being honest

They had the juiciest Brisket of the three. Great flavor too.

Pecan Lodge (Dallas, TX) - great and would be even better if they replaced mesquite w/ post oak

There's a place in North Dallas recently opened called TEN50 that's really good as well.

I've had brisket twice at Heirloom Market BBQ and it was on the dry side, need to try again. My wife ordered the spicy Korean BBQ pork sandwich and it was killer, as is the spicy kimchi side.

Not on the list but have had brisket at Sugarfire in St Louis recently, it was excellent. Had brisket and spare ribs at Shotgun Pete's in Columbia, MO a few months ago and both were great and the spicy beans. I ate at at a little hole in the wall in Chester,VA, Prince George Family BBQ, in December and the brisket was OK and had the best collard greens I have had in my life. There is very high quality BBQ in many areas.

I ate at a place in West Memphis, Arkansas back in college. We went up to do a BBQ tour of the city and ended up at this shack about 10 min off the interstate. It had a pit out back with some picnic tables and a working kitchen sink in front of a shotgun type house. Nobody knew the name of it, they just knew where it was. To this day it's the best ribs and pulled pork I've ever had. We went back a few years later and the guy had closed due to health problems.

Texas BBQ shouldn't be top 10 on any list. There are easily 10 great BBQ places in Tennessee.

I've only had BBQ east of the Mississippi on a couple of occasions (one was a chain but can't think of its name and the other was Swig-n-Swine in Charleston, SC). Swig-n-Swine was solid but I've eaten at dozen places in TX in my ltd time here that were better.
