I've tried a couple different, well regarded places in Houston. And I'm incredibly disappointed. I can't speak for any style from California, but Houston has been very disappointing so far.

New Mexico/Colorado is my favorite. You can't beat a hatch green chili sauce. I prefer it over authentic Mexican.

Ill take authentic mex over tex-mex any day. But if a tex-mex place can make a good al pastor plate, then I'm in.

Green Chile is so overrated. Colorado/New Mexican food is awful compared to good TexMex.

Houston is better at authentic mexican than Tex mex. Do yourself a favor and hit up the taco truck by the west alabama ice house. Get the el pastor taco and the fajita quesadilla and thank me later. It is sincerely the best meal under $35 I have ever had and it only costs $7.

I can make a strong argument for a chimichurri skirt steak. It is one of my favorite beef dishes. Is that considered tex mex?

Agreed. A good taco truck. And pupusas (I know it's not Mexican) are good. I'd also try several taquerias

This is so wrong, I'm assuming it's a troll. Then I wonder who would troll tex-mex, then I see that you're a Gump, and I realize that it's not your fault. The universe mandates that gumps must be wrong about everything, and most especially, food.
