Baton Rouge:

I've had Nagoya and Sushi Masa lunch buffet recently. I was rather unimpressed with Masa.

Maybe 4/5 for Nagoya
3/5 for Masa.

Anywhere else(buffet) I should try?

I wouldn't eat sushi off of a buffet unless you're a fan of food poisoning.

You are playing Russian roulette with food poisoning going to those places. Take it from a man whose last trip to Nagoya caused him to skip the St. Patrick's Day parade in favor of vomiting, sweating and being parked on the toilet.

This sucks considering Masa isn't a buffet

My rolls were loaded up with rice and very tiny fish pieces.

Oh. I get most of the apps and sashimi/nigiri. Not much for rolls unless I'm just looking to get full for cheap, which wouldn't be the case at AYCO.

Just don't understand the buffet culture , there is no buffet food I wouldn't rather have a higher quality meal of at a normal restaurant.

Unless you are a college student eating a pizza buffet, grow up and eat like an adult.

How many rolls do you eat at one of these typically? It can't be much less expensive that just going to a nice sushi place and ordering 3 rolls on your own.

Masa is made to order. I guess I was just disappointed with the rainbow roll.

It's a mere 15.99, with drinks included.

Okay I give my dining experience an overall 4.

Nagoya is good for certain things. The frog legs are some of the best I've ever had. The large peel and eat shrimp are good too provided they don't overcook them.

However, I've tasted the Saba nigiri sushi twice...once going down and again coming up. This isn't the place you want to go for quality sooshee.

I don't pretend to know what constitutes as quality sushi by any means, but Teppanyaki offers a pretty good variety of sushi, Chinese food, and hybrid dishes.

My girlfriend who has worked at Hello Sushi for nearly two years and who eats sushi regularly said she thought Teppanyaki was better than Sushi Masa.

However, a coworker of mine laughed at her remarks.

Yes, went once, would never go back.

its what, $50 a person? Give me a nice steak at a good restaurant over that 100 times out of 100

yep, wouldn't even consider it...

edit: though, I love those sushi conveyer-belt places, like out in L.A.

Nagoya
Kaminari Sushi and Hibachi (It's been more than a couple of years since I've eaten here.)
Tippenyaki

Of these three, in my experience of actually eating at the buffets, Nagoya has the best sushi buffet.

I like Tippenyaki. Their sushi is OK, but I don't go there just for the sushi. Also, you will see a lot of Asians eating at Tippenyaki. So they have that going for them.

I haven't been back to Kaminari. I think Nagoya is better and it's more convenient for me. Other than location, I don't have anything against it. Assuming it hasn't degraded over the years.
