Storing fresh corn in the fridge

A family friend gave me a bunch of ears of corn, the husks are still on and everything. I'm not going to eat it all in one sitting, how long can I keep it in the fridge and what's the best way to do so?

I can normally keep store bought sweet corn for a maybe a week before the kernels start to look like someone popped them lol.

Put as many as you can in a gallon Ziploc bag and put them in the freezer. I've kept them for 4-6 months this way.

Put them in a plastic bag that closes well to keep them moist. They lose sweetness each day but they're still quite good for some days. I tried the whole frozen corn ears. Didn't work for me. I don't like frozen corn.

As corn ages a bit, casseroles and soups are good uses. I made a corn and sweet onion quiche with some. Later, made a king crab and corn soup. Delicious!

Just to back up Gris, I've tried the frozen corn thing a few times, both vac sealed and ziplock and neither was that great. I'd rather just eat canned corn then frozen corn tbh

You can leave them in the husk but only for 2-3 days. If not used by then, Blanche in boiling water, shock in ice water bath, remove from cob, vacuum pack and freeze. The sugars turn to starch quickly which makes them less sweet and more tough. If frozen well it works fine. Some freeze the whole cob but that just takes up too much room for me. You can also can it.

Someone I know recently told me she "cans" the sweet corn as soon as she gets a ton of it at the first of the season. Puts it up on jars and says it's good. I've never had it, though I'd like to try it. I haven't found a way that I like corn from the freezer and I've tried several different methods. The texture changes too much for my taste.

I regularly get the frozen 1/2 cobs from the grocery store. Throw em on the grill and lather em with butter and Tony's. Pretty good.

Gris has a frozen corn phobia. Something physiological from her upbringing on the family farm probably. They made her slop hogs, and I suspect where it arose. Everybody else knows froze corn is not as good as fresh corn. But it's better than no corn.

Those hogs ate that hard corn and the slop. We were not fed frozen corn as children. Fresh or canned. The canned was only that shoepeg white corn which I like.
