So I don't cook (home delivery service)

Although home schooled, home ec was not a class. Dad was a phenomenal cook, mom, not so much. Now that I live in S. FL (appreciate the condolences), I can't get good food. Although, now I cook gumbos and etoufees, out of desperation. Signed up for Blue Apron. Everything thus far has been good. Avoiding the recipes with cauliflower. But, really tasty meals. I never know what to buy in the grocery store, because I have like 2 recipes in my back pocket. Now my fridge is overflowing with things I never thought would be good (spinach, mushroom, rice enchiladas. Excellent.)

Thanks for the information. I've changed my diet and we're looking at doing three meals a week through one of these services. It actually looks cheaper than going to the grocery store because you get the proper amount of ingredients for each meal and aren't over purchasing like at the grocery store.

I live with my SO and ordered the 4 person plan, bc I thought "He will eat that much!" Turns out, they send A LOT of food. I need to switch to the 2 person plan.

Where in South Florida?
What do consider good food that you can't get?

Is there a question in there? Just a statement that you have groceries?

Your dad was an amazing cook and never learned anything?

The question was implied by inflection.

Jones, Naples has all the chains. Snowbird hell. Not one LA styled dish.

I believe I mentioned that I make gumbos and etoufees.
Keep up, slacker.

Do you own any cookbooks? Joy of Cooking, How to Cook Everything, and Betty Crocker are a few that cover just about every kind of cuisine and don't require a lot of technique. River Road Recipes is tailored more to southern cooking and is a staple in a lot of Louisiana kitchens. Pioneer Woman makes pretty good stuff and has a blog, TV show & recipes on Food Network. Most of her stuff is really easy

Can confirm the BC orange cover cookbook is a great start. As a kid I read the charts on the front and back inside covers on spices and thus knew what went with what.
After that it's throw piece of meat in pan, add the spices that Betty says go well, turn heat on medium. In separate pots dump canned veggies, also on medium or medium low, voila, meal cooking. Repertoire can grow from there.

Agreed. When I was a kid we had virtually only two Chefs to learn from on PBS, Julia Child and Graham Kerr (Galloping Gourmet). There was no internet and really nothing else to pool from except for family recipes or books, and I utilized Betty Crocker quite a bit.

About to try Blue Apron. A couple of years using Home Chef. My wife likes to cook but hates making decisions. We work together so come in and put a meal together. We have learned many new cooking techniques and styles. We love it

Their website says $9.99 per serving. How in the frick is that cheaper than buying your own groceries unless you're buying steak or something??

Somebody gave my parents a week of Blue Apron as a gift. I was cracking up that they mailed them a single potato as part of a meal.
I'm not knocking the service. It just seemed odd to me as someone who cooks a lot and always has a sack of potatoes around.

I got a good promo and did hello fresh for a few weeks.
The ingredients were great and food was good, but it was a 30 minute or longer prep time. I stopped it because I need quicker meals at certain times
