Hey guys

I smoked a small 5.5 lb turkey breast earlier and it said 30 minutes per lb. did 230 degrees and it's electric so the temp was the same throughout

I set the thermometer to go off at 160 and it went off after only being in for 1:40.

It actually was all the way to 174. I took it out and wrapped it in foil and it's been sitting in a cooler. It's down to around 153 but is this normal?

I didn't think it would cook that fast and I'm worried that since it got up to 175 it will dry out. It did look very juicy when I took it out though

TIA

Yeah, the "it takes x long to cook" are just suggestions, I had trouble with my fire earlier and it was between 275-300 and it only took me 4 hours roughly for a 12 lb bird.

Go by the internal temp, when it's done it's done, enjoy!

I smoked my 14 lb turkey for about 7 hours @ 250° and the breast to 160-165. This my first time smoking a turkey and everything said to go by internal temp. After roasting, frying and smoking a turkey, the smoked one was by far the best!
