This accessory is money for anyone with a weber kettle. It makes smoking meats on the kettle 100% easier. You can keep the temperature in the pit at the optimal temparature for hours. I used to smoke meat in the kettle and have to add coals every hour or so to keep it at 225. With this thing load it up and it will hold the temp for 5+ hours. I have a turkey breast on it right now and it is holding 325 degrees currently easily, right where i want it. You can also use it on burgers or steaks to sear on one side then move to indirect heat after.
I was about to buy the smokey mountain smoker, but decided to give this a try instead. I love it.

I do the same thing on my kettle with a brick and a water pan.
I own both. The WSM allows you to cook so much more food. I still smoke on my kettle but only for small batches and items that cook quick.

Yeah this set up allows me to do brisket, large pork butt or turkey. If i need to smoke multiple items my neighbor has a WSM.

I never tried the brick method but it must be similar. This has just been so easy to maintain the temperature right where i want it, where before it always fluctuated.

Snake method works great for me and is pretty damn efficient.

That seems cool. I'm spoiled with the Egg. I just get the temperature stable for about an hour then go to sleep and forget about it. I have a controller but rarely use it. It's amazing how well they maintain temperatures.

I have a smokenator. It does a pretty amazing job holding the kettle at a consistent temperature for a couple hours at a time, without the risk of any flare up.

I have the WSM for big cooks, but often smoke a rack of ribs or two on the kettle.
I use two fire bricks (sawed about 1/3 off one of them) on the kettle to separate the fire from food. They cost under $5 and have lasted many years. Use the Minion method, and it works well.

I have a 22" WSM and a 22" kettle so the only thing that would interest me about this product would be the searing aspect. When I clicked the Amazon link I saw this
the Weber 7403 Char-Basket Charcoal Briquet Holders which would work just as well for searing at a fifth of the cost - two holders for $14.99. But you don't need to spend money to do that even though it would probably save a few charcoal briquets over time.
