My daughter has decided she wants to try a shrimp po-boy. Where can I get a good one on a Sunday? Both Olde tyme and Pop's are closed.

Good thing old tyme is closed. I wouldn't want her first shrimp poboy to be terrible.

Just map-wandering: Buck & Johnny's over in downtown Breaux Bridge looks interesting.

I like the poboy at hook and boil. It's not traditional though

where did you go brother ?

Pretty much everything is closed on Sundays, with limited options. One possibility: Bayou Boys Grill inside Rouses , they close at 6pm .. call ahead of time

Or just buy a loaf of french bread for $1.00, fresh peeled shrimp around $7.00 / lb., and fry them at home

We decided to wait and go another day. I thought about making her one at home.

Ended up going to rouses and grabbing some of their shrimp and made one for her at home. She loved it.

I honestly was not trolling. We went out of our way to eat there for lunch one day and at the recommendation of this board, we went out of our way to eat there. I got the shrimp poboy and I forgot what my wife got but it was ok. The shrimp poboy was terrible. The shrimp had a metallic taste and there was too much bread. I don't live in that area so I can't give you any recommendations as to what I think is a good shrimp poboy in Lafayette but I can tell you a few others. Faustos in kinder, Robbie g's in Alexandria, sammys in New Orleans are all top tier. I can name several others that have been extraordinary but old tyme let me down. It really hurt this boards reputation with my wife too.

I may be in the minority but that was my experience.

too much bread

Might have been a off day? They scrape out a good bit of the bread down the middle of the loaf. So I don't know how there is too much bread. Maybe you mean not stuffed enough with shrimp? I'm from Nola and live here now and they are my favoret place here for shrimp...well BJs (same) because I live closer to them.

Glad to hear your daughter liked it Janky! Home made is hard to beat at times

Olde Tyme is just fare.. It's just a sandwich shop/deli. I guess everyone loves it because it's nostalgic for SLI-USL-ULL-UL alumni who ate dollar sandwiches in college..

But don't let it sway your opinion about the board, because the only posters that actually like Olde Tyme are either from Lafayette and went to UL and don't reflect the collective opinion of the F&D board.

I'm from Nola and I went to USL

It's not the best. But I think it's good.
