Have 5lbs unpeeled medium shrimp and Zatarains liquid crab boil - anyone have anything other than the directions on the back of the bottle? Thanks!

Use a gallon of water plus 4 cups white vinegar. Add a cut lemon, a few cloves of garlic and @a half cup of the Zats liquid. Add a few T of your favorite cajun seasoning too. Bring to a simmer for 5 minutes.

Bring to a boil, drop in the shrimp. Stir. Cut the heat when all shrimp are pink. Add enough ice to stop the cooking and let them. Sit ten minutes or until they taste right to you.

What Otis said. Add salt until your water tastes really salty.

It's a tip from old man Tony Chachere. Read his original book.

I'm sure it is. Was just poking fun.

I do a stick of butter in the water. Makes em peel real nice-like

Otis - Thanks, boiled them last night. They came out really good but a bit harder to peel than usual, maybe not enough ice.

Yep. Got to cool em quickly to prevent over cooking. I barely let a medium shrimp get pink before I ice em. That size cooks very quickly.
