What is it that you're looking for and where are you staying? I assume that you're looking to get away from the touristy Riverwalk options?

La Tuna is a cool outdoor spot for beer and they have casual food. Nothing special that I recall but a cool environment.

Feast is not too far from there and is a good small plates type restaurant if you were looking for more of a foodie type option.

Mi Tierra is kind of a Tex Mex institution as is La Fogada, although it's further North. La Fogada is known for their strong margaritas.

Paloma Blanca in Alamo Heights is also really good.

I lived there for 10 years and when I go back, I always hit Los Barrios on Blanco Rd. Super food, no frills - family owned. Highly rec!

If you're there on a Saturday, go to the Mirador on St Mary's near the Worlds Fair site. Got for lunch - get the Mexican soups.. I'd drive over just for those. Aztec was best.

Rays drive inn for puffy tacos. Get off the river walk and the market. Find the dirtiest looking place for breakfast and gets breakfast tacos.
