Salt on melons

I thought adding salt to watermelon and cantaloupe was a universal thing. My wife looked at me like I was nuts the first time she saw me do it.

Is she just sheltered? Or are there parts of the world that do not do this.

Also, autocorrect didn't even try with cantaloupe. I'm assuming it's spelled right.

Generally I don't do it. I have in the past though. I don't find it to be all that common up here

I sometimes put salt on watermelon but have not heard of folks putting it on cantaloupe.

Never on a cantaloupe, but I've been putting salt on a melon since I was a wee lad.

I think it's a country thing.

I've actually seen city folk put sugar on a watermelon.

My Mom's family did. Dad's didn't. Maybe a mississippi thing?
