No I won't be, but I guess I could go around. Isn't the hospital nearby? Could I park there? Is it walking distance?

Y'all think I will have trouble getting to this place on Friday evening around 615? It's almost on the parade route at about the 2/3 point and the parade starts at 630.

Yes, I wouldn't recommend going at that time.

Any other recommendations that won't have parade issues?

This parade must be a big deal!

Just avoid Johnston st and downtown

It's just a parade but anything a block off the route will be tough

I recently revisited SSI for a second time and enjoyed it again.

We went at nearly peak time on a weekend night and they were beginning to get slammed, as the weather was cooperating and the deck was filling up rapidly, so the place was rockin'. There was also a three piece live band outside, which was fueling the energy on the patio.

We started with a couple of really good craft tap beers and noticed that the Sweet Potato Crab Cakes were flying out of the kitchen so we ordered them. Louisiana blue point crab meat, Opelousas sweet potatoes, with an orange Siriacha cream on the plate to dip them in. ($12) Very tasty, and they had an excellent fry.

Indeed it was.($26)We were asked what temperature we wanted our duck dishes to be and they hit a perfect medium rare and were seasoned very nicely, definitely the star of the evening. The dish was served with cherry smoked sausage brandy sauce (with chunks of sausage which were delicious), fried organic kale, and roasted new potatoes (large dice), which unfortunately were a bit cold in the centers. Another slight issue we had was that the Poupart's artisan bread ($2) was served with a frozen center. Apologies were made and accepted and a second satisfactory loaf of bread hit our table.

Our salads were right on.

I'd like to return on another night when they're slower to be able to ask some questions about the place. For instance, I would have liked to have known what farm they get the duck from, since they pride themselves in the farm to table concept and the duck was delicious.

I had to chuckle because we were seated next to a predominant local lawyer who was decked out in a nice suit and kicking back a bottle of finer wine, while in the meantime, the waiter's tattered appearance would have put Kurt Cobain to shame, not that it bothered me, but I noticed it because it seemed sort of awkward, yet refreshing at the same time that they could intermingle in the same place. It's not upscale by any means, indicated by the white butcher paper table coverings, but it's a place where you could certainly feel comfortable in any dining situation.

In all, a good experience that I'm willing to return to. It's one of those little known, underrated gems that I would recommend.

Yeah the wait staff is always rough there, all tatted up and pierced. I really find it unappetizing to have my food brought to me by somebody with a couple of lip piercings.
