Maybe try a flavored bourbon or bourbon based liquor like a Sweet Lucy or something, and work your way up from there?

Oh OP, I have another idea. Try the Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask. It's a nice scotch finished in rum barrels.

My go to rum is Captain Morgan, but I love Black Magic. It's similar to The Kracken.

I usually drink Boubon, but was in the Bahamas last year and got a bottle of this that is only made and available there....exceptional! Get you some if you go.

I've had Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 yr rum...it's damn near perfect. It can hold its own with a good bourbon or whiskey.

I'm the same with bourbon. Had too many rough nights with it in college. I like the Old New Orleans brand rum. Its not some award-winning rum but has a decent taste for a reasonable price

I prefer rum to bourbon myself. Will drink both. My favorites are Clement Honore and Vizcaya. The Zacapa is great also. Some of the Appleton Estates is damn good also.

I used to be in the same boat as you, but developed a taste for bourbon making old fashioned cocktails at the house. Gonna try that Pilar though if I find some.
