Ordered take out tonight, get it home and just as I'm about to take a bite into mine, my wife screams as I see a dead roach in her food. I called the place, they fully refunded our meal, and all I asked for was a total refund. They offered to replace the food, but I was so disgusted I couldn't even bring myself to eat anything else from that kitchen.
I brought the food back to the restaurant, with the roach laden food in a ziploc bag. The woman was a little grossed out, but wasn't overly apologetic....

It was in the New Orleans area.....I'm not going to advertise it like that. I was just at a loss as to what proper compensation for such an event is. I think after returning the food and not wanting more they should have at least comped me a future meal if I so chose.
Though I'm honestly leery if I ever want to return.

The proper thing to do is to tell us the name so we know not to go there, bud.

There's no way it was Royal China. Theirs is the best Chinese food in town in my opinion. We ate there today as a matter of fact.

We had this happen at Jade Buddha on Jefferson. We used to go there all the time because it was on the way home from my wife's work, but we will never go back because of this.

I went to a Subway one time and there was a baby roach crawling in the cookie case.

Depends on how hungry I am. If very hungry, I would probably just take the roach out and nuke the meal for about 2 minutes and then eat it. If not very hungry, I would probably do what you did and bring the food back for a refund. After that I would suggest to them that they fumigate the restaurant. And I probably wouldn't eat there for about six months or until the memory of the incident fades.

Just be grateful that they didn't charge you extra.

I worked at a restaurant where a customer got served a roach along with their nachos. The customer laughed it off, but the incident made the kitchen crew cringe.

The problem was that we cooked the chips in advance (I know, frying fresh is best) and stored them in a large bin. Well, apparently the bin was left uncovered one night (probably multiple nights) and a roach got in it. The roach got scooped up along with the corn tortilla chips, and then smothered with black beans, placed in a 450 degree oven, doused with spicy cheese sauce, covered with black olives and jalapenos, sprinkled with a three cheese blend, and then topped with lettuce, salsa and sour cream and voila! Grande Roach Nachos! $9.95 please

If they refunded your money why should they comp your next meal with them?

Because it was a giant hassle....had to go back out, bring the food back to the restaurant, and then order from somewhere else. Besides the apology....they didn't seem too concerned about the whole incident. If I was dealing with a customer where this sort of thing happened you can bet I would have been a lot more apologetic.

Then why would you want a future meal from there? Lesson should have been learned. Added chicken...$3.99, shrimp...$4.99, roach in food...priceless. There are some things money can't buy.
