I don't understand the logic of returning meat to a store. It costs more gas and time to get to and from the store than the meat costs.

I buy groceries 4-5 times per week so I was going there anyway. Stopped large shopping trips a while back, thanks to this board, when I would toss wasted food every month. Figure out what I'm cooking for dinner while working then stop on my way home. Happened to be working from home yesterday and was able to grab the chicken and go.

Was the price label a Winn Dixie label or the chicken company label?

Don't remember exactly but I think it was stamped on the Sanderson farm label and not the store label. Wouldn't surprise me if they white washed the sell by date like the dude from catch me if you can.

Wife said I should return it. Has anybody tried this? I don't have the receipt anymore but hell, a $9 pack of chicken is worth the trip, even if they just exchange it out. Nothing I hate more in the kitchen than food waste.
I've returned stuff to Brookshire's days later. They just let you do it and don't ask for a receipt. But I am there like every other day and they know me.

Nevermind, I should have read the entire thread.

I've never cared for Winn Dixie.

Up until this incident, I've had no issues. It's right by my house and they do the fuel perks reward.

When Alexander's on highland opens or the Lablanc's on airline and duplessis, I'll be doing some shopping there.

Its not a problem, just bring in and they'll take care of it. I've done it a couple times.

This happened to me. Not only did W/D give me my money back, but also free vouchers for a couple packs of chicken in the future.

Only one similar experience. Bought some ribs at Walmart. I checked the expiration date. It was OK. The meat didn't smell bad through the pack.

But when I put it inside the car and drove a block I started to smell something. Brought it back and they cheerfully returned my money.
