Returning bad chicken?

Bought some chicken thighs from Winn-Dixie on Friday, buy one get one free. Cooked the smaller pack that night.
Opened the fridge last night to fix dinner and the smell of spoiled chicken hit me immediately. Looked on the unopened package and it had a sell by date of 3/28 and a "Guaranteed Fresh" sticker.
Wife said I should return it. Has anybody tried this? I don't have the receipt anymore but hell, a $9 pack of chicken is worth the trip, even if they just exchange it out. Nothing I hate more in the kitchen than food waste.

buy 1 get one free...they usually do this when food is at the end of its rope i think.

yea, either that or they double the price/lb and you aren't really getting it on sale.

I had it happen a few times at Albertson's and I have never had a problem with exchanging it.
I've always done it the same day the chicken was bought though.

i would return it. the date says good through tomorrow and its not... id have no problem insisting on exchanging it (i dont think you need a receipt to exchange it if its got their butcher's sticker on it).

Its not a problem, just bring in and they'll take care of it. I've done it a couple times.

Done this at Albertsons as well

I buy chicken all the time and leave it in my fridge for up to 4 or 5 days and never have a problem w/it. I keep my fridge at 34 to 36 degrees which is where most stores are. After 4 or 5th day I freeze it. Check temp of ure fridge and quit buying chicken from Winn Shitme.

Never really had a problem before but I'll check the temp to make sure it's below 40.
I returned it earlier without the receipt, no questions asked. Probably because she couldn't talk after she got a whiff of it. As I walked away, she called the meat department and said she had a "pickup" for them. Meat guy was probably pissed.
On another note, I don't know why they use a sell by date for their food products. It confuses the hell out of me, especially when buying milk. Am I supposed to guesstimate how long it should last after that date?

I've returned pork to Winn Dixie. They were very apologetic & exchanged it for me.

Bought boneless chicken breast last week at Albertsons, by the next day they smelled horrible. Returned them, girl at customer service said " oh yeah, i think our freezer was out". Really???

I don't think anyone would care. I have done it several times with no problem and if someone would give me a problem I would just say "rotted meat dude. You or channel 2"
Most of the time it's not the local grocer who is to blame and they get reimbursed.

I don't understand the logic of returning meat to a store. It costs more gas and time to get to and from the store than the meat costs.
I see purchasing consumables as a risk that I take. I guess I'm just more old school and don't operate under the impression that others owe me something and should take care of me.
End rant.

Well the $90.00 of bad lamb was returned. I'll toss a $3.00 chicken but I draw a line on mortgaged commodities.
It's a risk , certainly. Bad egg, milk, chicken etc... And I'm as old as anyone but I also myself cater to the same bunch and none has stopped those cheap asses from hitting me up.

Was the price label a Winn Dixie label or the chicken company label? If its a Winn Dixie label, they have the opportunity to change the sell by date, it's not right but they hate to throw away products too

You act like they are just trying to get handouts. They just want what they paid for. The business does OWE them that.

I thin it is more a society issue these days than getting a pack of meat replaced. What's next, returning a pack of defective condoms to the local grocer if the female is pregnant? I can easily see this and someone getting extrmely rich off of idiotic shite like this.

Reputable companies will not have a problem with that.
Winn Dixie should not.

The point of buying fresh food is to have fresh food. It's not a scam to return an item that has gone bad.
