I'm curious as to what type of niche the beer garden is looking to fill. I only visit Baton Rouge during football season these days but there has to be countless of places around town with a decent beer and food selection.

I don't see Cocha surviving, just based on the description. Maybe when it opens, if the food turns out incredible, but S. Louisiana and "Global Cuisine" with real estate in one of the most expensive areas in the city... i just don't see that one surviving very long. Best of luck to them, however, and I hope they prove me wrong.

I think they're looking for it to be a neighborhood place. It's also going to have things that Radio Bar doesn't have -- like food service and TVs.

Went Wednesday for lunch. While the salad was a little smaller than what I was expecting, the food was very good. I respect what they are trying to do with the local farmers, and have a feeling the extra cost for less has something to do with that.

Also, their draft beer selection didnt look bad, and I heard they are supposed to have their own cocktails.

I will be back, give it a shot.

I'm glad you edited out live music... nothing kills a place like that faster than a band that's too loud to have a conversation. In my opinion, of course.

Very small portions for the price. Once the novelty wears off, I don't see people paying those prices for the portions.

I thought I had heard they might have acoustic performances, but nothing with a band and a big PA out of respect to the surrounding neighborhoods. But I looked back and read what had been written about the place and I couldn't find any reports about music. I know they talked about putting in sound deadening stuff so the people next door won't be bothered.
My attitude about music is, don't bother unless you can book acts people would be willing to pay to see. We go to Superior Grill a lot and those awful cover bands there on the weekend drive me nuts. They're loud, there's no place to dance, I just don't see what they bring to the restaurant.

If Cocha survives it'll be proof that IPO failed due to poor management. That cocha location is going to be tricky, paying downtown rent and trying a dinner establishment but not be a convenient walk for any of the hotels or apartments (excapt that 14 unit place at on main st). IPO complained of location being on 3rd and across from 2 apartment buildings.

I wouldn't have the cahones to open a dinner restaurant more than 1 block off of 3rd St and not in Spanishtown until 2019 at the earliest.

Does anyone know what is up with the Mid City beer garden project? Drove by the other day and its still an empty grassy lot. Looks like their projected opening of Spring/Summer 2017 isn't in the cards.

Beginning to wonder if this thing is perhaps not happening?

I enjoyed Cocha. Good concept and really good people. BR needs these places to survive, but their marketing leaves a lot to be desired. Too many people simply don't know that it exists.

Of the ones that have opened, Southfin is my favorite.
