Recent Bywater Restaurant Closures: Bellwether or Blip?

Little bit of both. Jim's closed due to reasons unrelated to customer base. Maurepas and Booty's took huge nosedives in terms of quality, and there are too many good places in the Bywater to spend dining dollars.

I think this is such an important part of the equation in the local market. I live 20+ miles from Bywater, yet Pizza Delicious is in my regular rotation. I drive all the way into town just to eat at PD at least once a month. Why? Every single dish I've ever ordered (including the pizza, though I'm a fan of the pastas and salads) has met or exceeded my expectation. Plus, it serves continuously all day, no one cares what you're wearing, and the focus is on the food quality (not decor, service, or concept).
If I get crap on a plate, I don't return. If I hear of my (palate trusted) friends getting crap on a plate, or if I see the photographic evidence of crap on a plate, I'm not making an effort to schlep across town to experience mediocrity.
Frankly, I'm bored by the latest trend of covering restaurant closures. Tell me about new places, off the beaten path gems, ingredient trends, interesting people in the industry. Does the business section write up an item every time a (t-shirt shop, car wash, hair salon, grocery store) closes? Wish local food writers would quit already, I feel like they're trying to make a story out of something that's typical of the churn in the industry.
